Rear Seat Delete for 84 Carrera
I did some searching and it seems likethis may have been an option for my year. I was interested in picking this up form someone although I don't know who or where?
Does anyone sell this as a kit? I l ooked for used ones but no luck. Anyone have a line on these? -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |

Watch Ebay. They are there fairly often. They usually seem to go for between $200 & $350.

can anyone post a pic of what the "Seat Delete" option looks like? I have often thought that my rear seats are pretty much worthless.

Just take the rear seats/belts out, that's what I did. If you want a tray of some sort it shouldn't be that hard to make, but l went with the lighter is better motto.

I am looking for a factory finished look. The seats are worthless...I wouldn't ask anyone to ride back there.
One of these interior places could make a fortune...I would pay $300 for a factory look a like rear seat delete option... -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |

How much do the seat backs weigh? I have debated whether or not to remove mine for a while now. Not sure how the fabric/cardboard detaches from the rear tray?

The trick to using the rear seats is to sit on one side and put your feet on the other side. You can even wear a lap belt this way. It's not too uncomfortable for ice cream runs and such.

Seat delete
When you see how these rear shelfs are made I think you'll understand why upholstery shops don't make them. They are very well constructed and rock solid. Sure someone could make a lesser version for a fair price but thats exactly what you would get a " lesser version " .

Rear seat backs from a Carrera weigh exactly 7.5 lbs per side - easiest 15 lbs I removed. While you're back there remove the insulation under the parcel shelf for another ~10 lbs savings.

The seat backs are easy to remove, the big bolt on the inboard side, and then the carpet on the back is attached with 3 screws. You may need an impact screw driver for the big bolt. One of mine was really tight until I used an impact driver. The rear shelf and rear seatbelts come out really easily too. The rear shelf will need to come out to get that sound pad that weighs a ton out. Maybe 1-2 hour job total.

I actually took my rear seats out as well since they're useless to put a seat delete in. Here's a picture of what it looks like. This one is from a C2 Speedster which has the tunnel. The ones for 1989 and previous cars are similar.
Cheers! |

Now that is impressive...

I've never heard of this option. In the photo above, does that include 2 little symetrical "glove boxes"? Where does this go exactly? Any pix of one installed? I assume that what we're looking at sits at the bottom of where the rear seats would have been. Am I correct???

That system just looks heavy! I would not have much use for that type of space utilization in my car...that's why I have a van.
