Cleaning valves

Warning - newbie question ...

I have my carbs off for cleaning/rebuilding. Also pulled the manifolds for cleaning. Now that I have access to the intake valves, should I do anything to clean off some of the deposits?

Let sleeping dogs ... lie. You are more likely to dislodge some carbon and have it stuck in the valve seats and cause a compression leak.

I would not do any more than cover it up, and leave it alone.

a carbed motor should have a cleaner intake/valves than say a cis motor.

you might add some snake oil to your fuel before your next oil change. yelcab is correct, a big chunk may cause serious trouble.

i would let it slide. if you must, i believe bmw used walnut shells and gave a free one time cleaning.

Garage
Put it back together and then add full bottle techron to half a tank of gas. Drive it to almost empty. Fill up and drive till empty. Then change oil. Some people spray water into intake while engine is running. If you have carbs, go for it. The water will break up any carbon. Make sure you keep car reved when you do this. I do it on my mfi. Nice black crap comes out. Only do it before your about to change oil.

Thanks guys. I'll let it lie and run some Techron after she's all buttoned up.
