HP Junkies Another W
Please as always if you are offened by the Street Racing Scene
Please go Back, Other wise Enjoy it Anyhow this one is fresh out of the Press as today (Actualy Tonite 12-23-02) Background Our Contender is considered one of the Big Dogs,No the REAL REAL Big Dogs but from time to time he dances with them, The Car is a Honda Civic 95 she is a V-Tec stroked to 2.0 liters Turbo , Intercooler, DTA,Head Work and Bla ,Bla, which has made 475 Fwhp @ 22 Pounds of Boost. She Ran 11.2 @135 with slicks on the 1/4 mile For the last year we been trying to Dance but it appers that theres always a problem here on my camp or there in his camp, the last 3 days they been tunning the car D.T.A and today they feel that the car was running its best............. The phone rings and is my buddie Who we call B, so B makes a social invitation to go Dancing (and not to make exuses but my car has run much better before ) so after a small chat I decline the offer to Dance my main reasons were Heavy Traffic, it looks cloudy and I don't feel the car is 100% so I decline, not even 2 seconds later I came to my sences,we been waiting for this for a year........year So I call Mr. B and ask him if his car is running good ,he replays this is it! no Excuses well I made it clear of the rules (we have run before both of us had 500+hp) so is clear he agree on the location and the usual 15mph roll ,Well I replay "I comming to the Dance." It happens that I been getting familiar with my boost settings, tank still has 1/2 and 1/2 of good fuel,I still have a small hesitation from 1st to 2nd but we go anywhere.Boost set at 1.35 We go and drive to the location, my self ,the honda and a decoy,we stop, agree on the distance and we are ready for take off,we go from the roll (15mph) hit the MPH sign (thats our start point as agree ) Out of 1s we have a good jump, shift to 2 and my car is all over sideways to the right and hard to the left, I let out with Gods help we straight her is obvious that was not even a race we go back and the Honda Camp is dissapointed they ask if we move a bit further and we will dance again,by know both camps are exited (I was the lone Ranger ) So we line up and we go for it out of 1s Again I have a good small jump 2s he is next to me and start to stay back 3 we start to pull HARD,4th I have a clearly 1 car leght I let out the race is over,we park everyone shake hands,a little man from the Honda Camp replays Good and Square You won ,we sat there and chat about the race, my car did very well she ran good! In my eyes they are suffering from the same Disease on the Street Racing Scene LOST TRACTION! something that we 911s don't have YET...............AMEN There you have it FRESH..............Until next Time.........

Island and pwd, why so rude?
Juan, I'm suprised he stayed level with you through 2nd gear. I've driven a few front wheel drive turbos and there was one I tried with 340 at the wheel that was getting wheelspin in 4th! Well done anyways. |

So now "indifference" is rude!? . . .what about the 70-something other views of this post, moving on, with no response. . . is *that* indifference rude? ![]() Anyway, let's count the reasons to be indifferent: 1)Juans 911 is oozzing with HP; looks great, but only gets driven hard in a straight line. 2)One liking this maybe associated with "The fast & the Furious" rice-a-roni treat. It's an okay post. I'm not knocking it; it's just. .. .wait. . . ![]() . . .Where was I ? Oh yeah, Merry X-mas! ![]()

Juan, I'm surprized that you don't have a bigger traction problem.
My brothers are in town for the holiday, one hasn't been for a ride so we went today. Not the best environment. The temp was a blistering 36F. Good for the motor, bad for the tires. I started out modest in first, heavier in second, said "are you ready?", then slammed it in third. The boost was there instantly and everything was normal for a splint second - until we got on top the HP curve. At somewhere around 6000rpm the rear end kicked out to the right. Thank God it tellographed and I got out of it. We were going a calculated ~90mph !! My guts jumped in my mouth on that one. Not sure if we hit a dusty spot or just the combo of cold-air-induction + cold tires. I don't do full throttle in 1st and 2nd on boost but sure wasn't expecting trouble in 3rd!! Well anyway, he got a good ride and some fun. Maybe sunny Florida has stickier roads. Keep safe.

Juan: JOLLY GOOD SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those ricers do have the gears for the lower end, but you still showed him down there due to traction. You still have the gears for bonzai speed. Proving stuff can get expensive. One of the disadvantages of driving the P car is that everybody wants to race. As you gain time in the game, you too will also someday come to the conclusion that at some point its just a matter of $ as to who goes faster, and just settle back and enjoy the ride for the sake of the ride and not the win or loss. Must confess that it is interesting to me as to what all the drag guys are doing and what the outcomes are. Keep it coming! Enjoy. Diverdan |

Great to hear your car is running sweet Juan!.
Did you ever get a chance to track/autocross it yet?. If you do, you might have to drop the boost a bit ![]() street racing/legality issues aside- having met you, you seem a pretty safe kinda guy and am sure you weigh up the safety issues before a run. Drive spirited, fast and safe! merry xmas Ben

Maybe I'm naive, but why wouldn't you start the race with a standing start instead of at 15mph? It would seem to me that if you're racing in a straight line, that starting from a stop would be a more accurate test of the car and the driver's ability.
If all we're doing is seeing how fast we can go from 15mph to whatever, a 60's or early 70's muscle car could be pumped up even higher for a lot less money.

I would guess that the 15mph start is a way of making it fair and consistant for two very traction limited cars. Juan, the only problem with your racing is that the poor Honda guys have nothing to loose =) If you beat them they say "big deal" its a mod Turbo Porsche....However, if you dont beat them.....shame on you

I enjoy reading of your exploits. Please keep them coming. Curves or straight, its all good!! Why do people who are not interested keep reading after you warn them, and then feel the need to respond? Michael

The ONLY production car quicker than that is the McLaren F1 at 11.1@138mph. Even a Ruf CTR (yellowbird) is good for 11.6@133mph. 11.2 is quicker than any factory produced roadgoing Ferrari or Lamborghini ever made. If a McLaren F1 is John Cleese's butt then..........!! |
