indentify bumper part
Can anyone identify #2? It comes up unknown on the Pet CD. It's in the way of my Carrera cooler install so I'm thinking of leaving this piece off. I don't see what its purpose is.

That part provides some protection to the cooler in case of a side impact. It's made of hardened aluminum same as the bumper. Also in the case of a hard frontal impact, it will actually travel back far enough to make contact with the tire increasing the risk strut damage.

I asked this same question once and the majority of the replies indicated that the piece is intended to protect the oil cooler (trombone style only?) in the event of a collision. I left it off after a front bumper/hood respray.
