Check out Uship. Kinda like eBay for shipping. I've used it on some large pieces, and a couple of motorcycles. Had great shippers, and the price was excellent.

Strap the engine to a pallet then build a 2x4 frame/box around it then cover it with 3/8 plywood all screwed together.

Yes, any big LTL shipping company will take your pallet. I rec'd 4 wheels with tires at a freight terminal. Nice that they drive it out with a fork lift and put it in your vehicle. I believe mine came via R&L but yellow is the same. Best to fully enclose it in a stout box as mentioned if any value. I'd bet $400 for that weight coast to coast. Mine was less than $200 from IL.

Nationwide Engine Freight Service: Home
They picked up the pallet at the seller's home in San Diego area. I went to a warehouse in Seattle area 3 days later and they loaded into my PU.........About $245 if I recall. Great service and communication.

I use freightcenter.com, you get several quotes and way less than if you contact the individual shippers. Complete 3.0 from Cali to Rocky Mount, NC, little over $300.

I just got a quote from Fastenal for shipping 4 x 4 x 4' pallet and 500 lbs from Reno to South Carolina for 200.00 plus insured for 12500. For free.
Uship was 329. Before insurance Seller was unable to deliver to shipper so a courier maybe be another chunk of cheese but I'll know tomorrow. I'll post results. Incidentally to ship a Trans seperatly was 175 for just the 80 lb tranny. Go figure. |

Working an incredible deal that included pickup. 250.00 for the engine and 75. For Trans. 2 seperate crates. This is with Fastenal and their new pilot program to pickup from loading dock or forklift. Anyone need contact info Lmk. I'm very happy
Here's the kicker. They include free insurance for 12500. If fully crated. |

Regardless of whom you choose to ship it, make sure you secure it to a strong pallet and then crate the whole thing to avoid damage. The crate for my 3.2 was a substantial shipping box made by the seller.

Fastenal shipped an the engine and Trans in 2 crates for 325 for both seperate parcels coast to coast and included 14,500 in free insurance. Will be delivered Friday. Can't wait to open that Christmas !! Fastenal also sent a sister company to pick up both crates for free At my sellers shop and dropped off at Fastenal. That's service!! This was not the norm and the pickup was part of some pilot program but it's just fantastic price. If both crates get here undamaged I'll use em forever Lmk if u want or need my reps contact info on east coast.

I just used freightorgator.com which gives you price quotes for multiple carriers, with customer star-reviews for each, and easy online booking. Shipped a motor from Atlanta to Austin via Southeast Freight for $260, picked up next day (Friday), dropped off at my house on a liftgate the following Thursday.
