Remove 4 way seat switch

I have an 87 911 cab -
Do I have to remove the seat to remove the 4 way power seat switch or can it be removed with the seat still bolted in the car?

it much better if you remove all the bolts and tilt the seat...this way you have access to the wires and see what you will be doing and routing the cable..

I removed my seat to replace the switch. Made it much easier, and was able to zip tie wires properly.

This. Just remove the seat. Just pay close attention (take a picture of everything) on how it was done.



On my car the switch was OK, but at some point in the past there was a tight bend and this was the issue.



The wire inside the loom was actually broken. All I can guess is something was shoved under the seat, or some gremlin kinked that wire. The switch worked fine. So check the wires carefully.

i advised to tilt the seat because..i do not know how strong the OP is and by removing the seat i have seen many scratched post leather covers...You are able to see all under the seat this way too.

Glen ..your wire loop is (was)way too sharp...

Agree 100% - tilting the seat really is good advice by just undoing the bolts and tilt backward - depending on your ability to get the seat out but would really recommend removing completely.



I have removed both seats a lot over the past few years and they are awkward to get out the first few times...also, be careful of the rails on the bottom of the drivers seat and contact with the steering wheel...I remember that being an issue depending on how I removed the seat and angled to remove.

My issue was bad motor and wanted to clean and replace switches...


Also, the plastic pieces on the back of the seats can be brittle so might want to be careful there:



In the end I would just pull them out completely and really get a good look at things.

Check the wires as mentioned above. I bought a new switch and replaced it, only to find that the seat still did not tilt. I took the seat out again and followed all the wires and found a break in the wire. Really don’t know how it broke in half. After I repaired the wire it all worked. Removing the seat is really the way to go, then you can check everything.
