My 915 The Final Chapter
It works.
We removed the WEVO and the WEVO coupler replacement, installed OEM and it shifts like butter, every gear, every time...and reverse is always there. Sure the throw is from Newport to LA but I can live with that...having a rebuilt gearbox and having to muscle into 1st and 2nd sucked and having reverse nowhere to be found at times was ridiculous. The feeling is everything is too new to add the dynamic of the WEVO, certainly no way on the gate which we removed early in the process. I have to say everyone was great about it and although I had to pay for this last iteration my main shop is making it up to me on a bunch of 951 upgrades I am doing so I'm content. I got stuck in traffic on the 110 yesterday leaving USC and have to say it was amazing to have a gearbox just do what it was suppose to do. 2nd gear was so smooth and effortless I wasn't sure it was in gear and gently eased off the clutch not knowing. The throw is amusing and maybe later ( much) I will give something another go like the OEM one or... But for now this project is done. Thanks everyone for your advise along the way. |

My experience is that the factory short shift kit will shorten the throw without many unwanted issues. I don't know if they still make those.

I have one with the Sein (sp?) gate add-on and my car shifts great. No issues.

The trans is fairly stock, with just a one piece bearing retainer and a carrera side plate. The shifter only needed to be adjusted, and shifted great for me when I first installed it with my new to me 915. There is a thread somewhere that explains how to adjust a 915 shifter, that alone can make a big difference. Since I autocross and DE the car I wanted the extra benefit of the seine shift gate system, which works great and I highly recommend it. I am very happy with the way my car shifts. My shifter has a positive and accurate feel to it.
