Thanks to all in advance !

ALSO .. im looking to purchase a set of 7 + 9 x 16 "

They should fit, but it is going to depend on the tire size and height. Rolling your fender lips is a good idea. The cool Fuchs for the front are not the 16x7's but the 16x8 944 Turbo offset rims.

I run 16x9 in back with 265/45's and 16x8 (944 turbo) in front with 245/45. All my lips are rolled. You also need to look at the rear clearance for your oil cooler lines if you are running an external thermostat and front oil cooler.

There should be no problem at all in the back where 245/45x16 is by far the best choice for 9x16 w/ no mods required. If you go much wider the oil lines will need relocation, the trailing arm bolts are the next interference point.

The front is more problamatic, especially left front. Many including myself, have had little trouble w/ 225/50x16 on 944 8s, others have had insurmountable difficulties. I have yet to determine whether the chassis or suspension is the issue(perhaps a combination or just bad karma).

+23-25mm o/s 8s will fit fine on my car but I have totally shaved the lips off.

+23mm o/s 7s w/ 205/55x16 fit w/o any lip mods

Hello,

I spoke with "Harvey" (?) of Weidman Wheels here in NorCal and he cautioned me against mounting 225's on my 16x7's if they were to go on the front of my '85 Carrera. He recomended me using 205's.

I was under the understanding that 225's would be more then fine on a 7' wheel. Was I wrong? I will be sending him a Tire Rack order shortly and I want to make sure I dont get the wrong size tires.

225's on 7" rims are perfectly fine.... I've done it a number of times as well as seeing tons of other people do it to.
Why were you cautioned not to mount 225's on 7" rims?
Clearance issues or too wide a tire for that wheel?
It should work.... Good luck.

225's up front on 7" can cause some problems with certain cars. There is definetly a bulge in the sidewall on these tires compared to the 205's. That is were you'll get rubbing on the the shock towers or inner fender wall possibly. Not for all, and that point has been spoken on. I ran 225's on 6's for track tires and they rubbed up front. I think the best way to run a 225 up front comfortable is with the 8x16 951 rim.
