Okay Fellas,
I can't be the only guy looking to replace the rear brake caliper PISTONS? Is this item NLA? Can't find it anywhere. I just recently cleaned and refreshed seals on all four calipers and replaced the front pistons due to severe pitting on 3 out of 4 them. Yes, I had mushy brakes and could never get them OEM hard even after a dozen bleeding sessions. After the front piston replacement and one bleed session, Pedal is Hard as a rock and stops on a dime. ![]() I am just not happy with 1 of 4 rear pistons, no pitting but a groove that is too close to the inner seal is making me insecure. BTW, Syl-Glide is your best friend ![]() TIA, Jim Side Note: rear dust covers trick, remove the barbed ring and squash every other barb and it will pop on nicely and still have proper tension to stay on the caliper.

I wouldn't flinch at running Centric dust shields but their caliper seals are dangerous. WAY too much seal retraction and they won't "break in" to work correctly.

Good to know.
I have the FTE seal kit in her already. Just wanting to replace the pistons. $8.00 for a proper dust boot design, I can live that. ![]()

Try Stromski........
I saw at Hershey at their booth stainless brake caliper pistons to replace rusted/pitted OEM pistons. They are available in their catalog too.

Huh? Rears? I do know they have fronts but I think that is all they have. Website does not have rears listed.

Going to stainless pistons will insure that the pistons don't corrode...
And seeing that the calipers are now more anodic they will corrode instead and at a higher rate! Stainless is .35V up the scale from iron and .45V from aluminum. That is too much of a difference. Porsche (and pretty much any other car company) didn't pick steel pistons by accident. To stop possible corrosion simply bleed the system on a scheduled basis to keep moisture out of it.

I need to fix up the calipers on my 89 track to street project, as seals are toast and caliper pistons have some corrosion. I looked at some pistons on ebay.uk as they seemed to have a better selection. The US exchange rate would make these reasonable.
I also thought about going the PMB route to make sure I got it done right. But in the end, I ordered a set of Porsche classic fronts and backs. I felt the price was very good. (Suncoast) I am less mechanically inclined, so this seemed like a sure thing. I may restore the originals later, or sell them as cores. I would be interested to hear where you end up sourcing the parts

I plan to order the pistons and seal kit by Centric but only use the dust boot not the inner seal. The FTE's are 3 days old and should be fine.

Update:
So, it has been awhile since I updated this post. I thought I purchased some rear calipers only to discover they were fronts. Doh! NO biggy, they will be used sooner of later since I have replaced the fronts already. So now to concentrate on the rear 42MM pistons. What I discovered, they are basically NLA. There is a piston with same dimension that 80-89 MBZ 300 series uses but the lip is thinner like our fronts. I really do not think it is a match. Plus the replacement is Steel/Aluminum. We need Stainless Steel/Steel. So I found two very good sources out of the UK: A member here Chris Seven sells a superior Titanium coated piston. Not to sure of the cost as the 38MM was $40 each and shipping to 90275 was $50 ( this was for front and rears ). Not bad for a NLA part and Titanium to boot. Please PM him to confirm. ![]() 6AL4V (Grade 5) Titanium with a Black titanium Carbide Coating The other is Bigg Red, ltd. Stainless Steel (item #BRP234201) 16.95 British Pounds plus 12.90 Shipping, so current exchange rate would be $104.97 Shipped to 90275. You need to email them to receive a PayPal invoice. I chose snail mail or the lowest shipping cost possible Bigg Red. Replacement Rear Brake Caliper Piston for BMW,Mercedes,Porsche ![]() Credit for the lead above goes to member Astroman, Thank you brother!
