Heat for my 70T Hotrod

Hey Pelicans,

I am getting close to installing my 1980 ROW 3.0L and I am researching options for headers / SSI's. I have an M&K Street Muffler 2in 2out. I was going to run headers, but after I recently acquired my 89 Carrera with heat, I realized I would miss the heat in my 70 Targa here on the coast.

My Question

Can I run the 1980 heater control boxes (Short Left, Right)? Or do I need to do something custom to fit the Heat Exchangers (SSI?) from the 1980 engine to the 1970 chassis.

Our gracious host sells this set - https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/91915SSI.htm?pn=91-915SSI-M124&bc=c&SVSVSI=0571

Is there a better option?

It's obviously a lot of money so I wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with this before making a purchase.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Austin

P.S. if anyone has any glamour shots of the blower / frunk setup that would be helpful as that part of the project is also mildly intimidating.

Lightbulb Wedge a parking heater in your smuggler box.

About 150$ for the heater then another 50-100$ for plumbing. This thing is perfect, plumb it into the mixer boxes left and right. Small 1.5 liter tank of diesel, or you can use a gasoline version, I chose the diesel heater.

I have a 3.0 in my 70 with SS's. Hook up to the heater control boxes. Works great. High heat 2.5 in hose from Aircraft Spruce and done. SSI's are forever.

Wow that’s awesome, how do you turn it on? I have never seen that before. Nice work!

This is great to know, did you replace your heater boxes when you installed your engine? If so did you buy 80s ones or just original ones? I guess I am unclear if they’re different in size etc.

It has a small wired touch screen it can mount on the dash but I keep it in the glove box. The new model has Bluetooth phone app as well.
