Blinking oil light ?

At low rpm's the red oil light has started to blink on my 1982 930. Oil pressure and level are both good. Emergency brake light also blinks at this time. Have checked alternator and all appears good. Could this be a failing oil pressure sending unit, either the red one below the air box or the small one adjacent the fan ? TIA Jim

Jim,

Check the brake fluid level, I think your car shares the same circuit. Crazy I know. The other is the ground at the eBrake lever sometimes it falls off or wobbles loose.

First thought was I would suspect a bad ground too. I seemed to have a bunch of nagging little electrical issues. It took me a long time to find and fix everything but here are a few things to check. Get some Deoxit D5 spray and use it to clean the electrical connections. Check the ground points, the fuse connections and the fuse holder. A lot of my gauge bulbs were dimly lit and that helped a lot.

Are you talking about the oil light that is connected to the oil pressure switch at the 'triangle of death' on the top of the engine? If you've got a leak there or just years of grime buildup that could be interfering with the electrical connection of the switch. Or maybe a bad switch. I'm trying to remember but I think that switch is connected to a wiring harness that goes to a 6-pin connector middle left of the engine bay firewall. Timmy2 could confirm. If you can get to it without much trouble you might try disconnecting it and cleaning those contacts.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Yes ,top of engine.Appears to be a bit of leakage there. Good advice to clean this area and all connections. Not the most accessible spot so tends to get ignored. Interesting thought about the brake fluid level. Definitely worth a shot !

Use a mirror and consder a partial drop remember to disconnect the shift coupler. You will not lose gears.

Just a friendly FYI, but with the Turbos, like the OP is referring too, that low oil pressure switch is easily accessible once the OEM mailbox, air filter housing is removed - no mirror or partial engine drop needed (aka - it's "right there", and even pretty high up in the air since it is on top of the fitting for the turbocharger oil supply pipe).
