Seeking Atlanta home mechanic for assistance with longhood repairs
I own a 1973,5T 911 with the 2.4 and CIS and have been around Porsches for many years. However; as of now my car is not running well (at least not well enough to get her out of the garage) and rather then calling a tow truck and sending it to any number of shops I have used in town, I would rather have the help of a confident home mechanic who could help get her running and get a few other things done. This is not rebuilding engines or tranny, changing out a clutch or replacing a wiring harness; more like adjusting valves, setting up the CIS correctly, getting to this "backfiring issue" and maybe changing out suspension bushings. I have a ton of tools can turn a good wrench as well, but am a bit hesitant to try some fixes and end up in a worse situation. I hate when that happens!
I would gladly pay you (we can negotiate a decent wage), but its more assisting, then sitting back with a beer and cigar watching you work. This is my fourth Porsche over the last 40 years so I have a good handle on these cars, but never was that confident with certain repairs. If you ever had a desire to learn to sail, I can offer sailing lessons on my Catalina 30 up at Lake Lanier or take your family out for some sailing. This is where the old barter system might be of interest. Whatever suites your fancy. I have not had the old gal out of the garage in almost a year and I am anxious to get back on the road again. I live up in the Alpharetta/Johns Creek area not that far off 400. If you want to make a few bucks or check out sailing and can lend a hand to a fellow Pelican, I appreciate your help. No rush, no hurry. Drop me a message if this of interest to you and you want more details of the cars issues to better assess your mechanical experience with older and very simple longhood repairs. The key is understanding and working with that crazy CIS! Thanks Bob

Someone out there in the greater Atlanta area must be looking at this!
Have any friends not on Pelican interested in messing with older Porsches? Too hot? Could not agree more. I can wait for cooler weather or you can stand aside and give me blow by blow instructions. Bob |

Hey Marc, Erik I appreciate the responses. MARC I sent a text.
I just want to get the old gal running again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My long time go to repair guys (Ryland and Reggie) both passed away way too early in their years and I noticed a whole new bunch of shops springing up in Atlanta I am not familiar with. For me, that would leave Franz Blam or Jack Lewis, but my preference is to learn with the help of an experienced hand. |

I have been busy lately too. I haven't had time to do anything on my own car. I would be happy to talk about CIS but yours is probably very different from my '83 CIS. I'm happy to drink a beer in your driveway and troubleshoot but my work schedule has left me with almost no free time lately.
For your car I would talk to Ray Morgan at Vintage Motorcar Restorations (VMR). Ray's shop was downtown but he just moved it up to Jasper.

Thanks Tim. Yep, your CIS is different then my first year model. Yours I believe has the air pump, thermotime switch, injectors set in the intake runners, etc. I would love to start with just adjusting the mixture with a CO meter for starters, Therein could be the big problem: Have one?

I don't have an exhaust gas analyzer but I have a portable wideband O2 sensor if you have a bung in your exhaust.
