Porsche Crest Definitely the coolest Porsche on eBay

This has got to be the coolest Porsche (at least this week) on eBay:

With that car's mediocre race record, I wouldn't give 'em a penny more than $190k. Ha!

Alas, it wasn't my $1 spent on a Powerball ticket that came in... Besides, don't think I'd do the historic race scene even if I could afford it...too much of a time commitment...

I'd buy it if it didn't have so many DNFs... makes me a little suspicious.

That would make the BEST commuter car ever!! I'd have to move much farther from work.

Tickets!?? I don't think so.

Sometimes my wife watches MTV's "cribs"- the homes of the rich and famous musicans, actors, etc. These peaple make sick money and part of the show is a tour of the garage... you see the Escalades, Rolls, Lambos, G500s ect.- all cars seem to have thousands of $$ worth of stereos, tvs, and wheels- as if the cars were not showy (or expensive)enough. When I see a car like this one I often have pity for those people because they really don't have a clue.

$10,000 an hour to operate it.

There's a guy thinking about buying one who started a thread on Rennlist. Here's a quote for some of the maintenance costs from Neil Harvey at Performance Developments:

"Parts are very expensive. If I can round up then here's a small sampling of costs.

Cylinder Heads, $ 5000.00 each X 6

Rod Bearings $ 2000.00 per set

Gasket set $ 1000.00 each if you can find one
We make our own

Engine Valves $ $ 90.00 + each X 24
We make all of the Valve train
parts as none available from
factory
Rod rebuild $ 1000.00 per set

Typical labor to rebuild an engine (water) is $ 12,000.00 plus parts, whatever is required.

Short coming of this engine is Cam drive system and Cylinder heads. Heads usually were changed every 30 -50 hours. Maybe in Historic racing you can stretch this but look for telltale water from exhaust.

Hope this helps. These are great cars, but were never cheap to run. Just how Porsche wanted it."

Even if I could afford to buy the car, I would have to put a Chevy V-8 in there to keep it on the track, because of the high parts cost .

Even with a reserve of $210k that doesn't seem like much for a 962.

To put it in perspective that is only 4 Ceyanne's.

The hard part is getting the #2 Meal Deal into the car from the McDonald's drive-thru window. Now, if it was left hand drive with roll down windows maybe...

Thanks for posting, Eric.
Just imagine.......*you* showing up in *that* car for Round-Up '03. (Better bring some spare cylinder heads and your homemade gasket set, though.)
