Oil line Breather restrictor for the sc's

Is my 78 SC suppose to have the oil line restrictor in the breather hose from the oil tank to the intake? I don't have one and am unsure if it's required for the pre 81 SC'S.

Part no: 930 107 289 00

Thanks, Paul

Paul,

The SC engines have breather hose line restrictor to the oil tank. The part number (930-107-289-00) bell type is found in later SC models ('81-'83). The '78-79 have the elbow type breather restrictor/flame suppressor. Make sure you install the breather restrictor at the right hose. Otherwise, you will have problem getting your engine to start at all.

Picture of breather hose restrictor said for SC's......

These are the breather restrictors you will find in SC's. The 90° elbow restrictors have also the so called flame/fire suppressor screen.

Yes, I have the elbow restrictor in place. My original question was: iI it a good idea to add the cone restrictor also to a '78 - '80 SC that didn't get one from the factory?

I don't see a reason why you wouldn't add one to the breather hose . Besides regulating the vacuum leak you get when the oil cap is removed, It looks like it might help condense some oil vapors before they get sucked up into the intake boot.

Hey Paul, I think you were asking if it was supposed to be in there, not if it was a good idea. For what it is worth, my '78 does not, but it is 49-state (if that would make a difference?). Sorry not to be of more help here (good topic tho.).

Is yours the silver ROW at the bottom of Juanita at Advanced European? Nice looking car in all events.

EDIT: Just checked your Garage - nope! Like the white a lot with silver trim. See you around!

Paul,

Where does the elbow plug into the system? It looks like the L shaped connecting pipe (thru 81 per the pet) and the backfire grid both plug into the back of the bellows.

I am pretty sure the cone restrictor on my 81 is on the other end of that same hose. I am not sere though but would be easy to check.

That said, not sure if you need two restrictor holes in the same hose (if the same hose). I don't see how it could hurt, though.

EDIT: Man, went in there with all assembled. Not user friendly from a space perspective. I can only say the hose with the cone restrictor hooks into the oil tank just forward of the fill pipe.
