Car running rough

Went on a drive to the local mountains today and after about 40 minutes of freeway driving when I got off the freeway the 911 was running rough. Stopped for a few minutes and then it ran fine the rest of the day.
The car has been running fine I just added gas the day before.
The engine is a 81 3.0 SC.

I'm thinking it is the fuel accumulator.

Any help would be appreciated.

im not sure why you would think it was the fuel accumulator as its way to early to rush to judgment.

see if the problem reoccurs and check some easy stuff first . cap/rotor/ plugs. plug wires, bad gas.

Trying not jump to conclusions. Thinking it might be related to a vapor lock and it seems to be fuel related. After I stop the car and start it again it runs fine. I have checked the plugs and the cap and it seems fine.
It might be bad gas and sees if happens again before I tear everything apart.

I am still sensing a wee bit of conclusion jumping..........

Before you tear into the fuel systems these cars are not prone to vapor lock. The accumulator is a shock absorber for fuel pump flow. It's secondary purpose is to keep pressure on the downstream side of the system. If that function is failing, your car would start poorly after ten minutes when it's warm as the pressure has bled down and it's too hot for the cold start valve to function.

My bet something electrical is messing with fuel. Fuel pump relay or Lambda relay.

How hot was it when you drove?

I'm putting $1 on the lambda relay or it's wiring. Disconnect it and see it if still runs rough.

Ravi,

Your fuel accumulator is not the culprit for your problem/s. If you could make your engine start, cross out the fuel accumulator and focus on some other things like FV relay, ignition system (distributor, plugs, wires, etc.), or even a bad batch of fuel. Keep us posted.

Run a bottle of Techron thru it, check plugs and injector connections.

You got a batch of bad gas. Put a bottle of dri gas in the tank to absorb the water.

I had the same problem a few months ago. Car is tuned up so I added a bottle of the real deal, Techron and it cleared things right up!!! Get it at Pep boys, Walmart, Auto Zone.

Check distributor cap and wiggle rotor to see if there is too much play in distributor shaft.

Umm, you just reminded me. My SC had been running roughly, especially once it got really warmed up.

I found the distributor cap wasn't seated quite as well as it could have been and now that's sorted it runs like a dream again.
