air-cooled 911: engine bay heat/sound pad

Has anyone used this product or something like this as a replacement for the engine bay heat/sound pad? I have an '87 911 Targa.

Thermo-Tec Automotive - 48" x 72" 1-SIDED THERMO

thanks, Dave

Good find. The double-sided material/version is probably similar to what Appbiz uses for their custom cut and trimmed ones. I have one installed and not only did it make a noticeable difference it fit so well like a glove that I didn't even use a spray adhesive. Used about eight 3" strips of strong adhesive velcro on the upper/mid portion along with the factory metal tabs, nice and snug with no sag.

I'd have to cut this product to spec. Where did you find the advesive velco strips?

That looks like it would work fine. The App Biz one I got is more a black foam backing. Mine in place for many years, no adhesive required. What you're paying for is for it to arrive 95% cut properly to fit. Mine is foil out just like the photos which I think looks best.

I used the Thermo tea on a Turbo with good results, reflect heat better than the stock unit.

Is it me or why do we want to reflect heat back into the motor compartment...I thought this was a sound deadening pad engineered to keep the cabin a bit quieter....
