Way back when, I had a full functioning, stock system, converted to 134a in my 1987 Turbo - it was just fine in cloudy, mid 80s or below weather, but anything above about 85 & sunny, and it really struggled. Temps approaching 100 and the OEM system does not do much good at all.

Here in NE with my 1987 fully charged all I can say mediocre.
And we don't get a lot over 90s. Rather roll the Windows down and enjoy the breeze. |

Here is the truth. Can you handle the truth? At 100 degrees outside with your stock AC on full blast you will be really hot!! But like Rawknees said, at 80-85 you should be OK. Like blowing warm air over an ice cube!

Aside from Rawknee's Turbo and maybe a Few Others.
I found the direction of the OEM bowtie vent or lack of it in place of a directional vent really helps to cool you down with an okay system. Mine is not that great but with the directional vent. I have found it to be very pleasant and keeps me from sweating at 95-100F temps on the freeway. ![]() Another unsafe trick was to use my see thru side window screen when the sun is directly into the front windshield. Yes, very unsafe but it sure cooled down the car when sitting on the 91FWY. I just do the passengerside, BTW

It depends on your definition of livable.
Anything over 90 degrees outside and it is insufficient.

I have also heard some good things on the 3M clear UV window film on all the windows. |
