930 oil cooler type?

I've got a 79 turbo, trying to identify the brand of oil cooler in the attached picture. Appreciate some help, car is running warm, any thoughts on whether this cooler or the 84' style carrera cooler would be better?

Thanks, Greg

Greg,

Are those tubes finned? They look solid, but it's hard to tell in the picture.

I would think the Carrera cooler kit would perform better either way. The cooler style is more efficient, And the shrouding and seals force the air through the cooler.

What part of CA are you in? What air temps are you having trouble in?

That looks like a Lehmke Turbotrol.
IMHO Turbos need all the cooling you are willing to pay for. Front spoiler cooler like the RUF is optimal.
You can probably get a way with the Carrera radiator cooler and fan.

Yes, the tubes are finned, I'm in the Sacramento area, seems to heat up to 230 pretty quickly in 90 degree weather. Thanks for the input. Sounds like the carrera cooler would be an improvement and easier to provide proper shrouding also. I assume the Ruf cooler would install at the front bumper, would it require a ventilated bumper to allow air flow then? Also, the Ruf is in addition to the fender mount?

It the car modified? There may be something else going on if it's stock. I too have a 79 930 and live in the area. I only have the stock trombone cooler and the car runs normal in 90*-95* temps. I have not driven in 100* temps due the fact the A/C does not work.

I do have the Carrera cooler kit to install. I'm waiting for winter.

Yes, the car is modified, has a larger turbo and aftermarket longneck intercooler. I'm not sure what else would cause increased temperatures other than timing being off? Any other ideas?

Here is a link to an article that lists all the details and part numbers for the up-grade.

Porsche 911 Carrera Oil Cooler Upgrade | 911 (1965-89) - 930 Turbo (1975-89) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article

I would search the running hot question in the 930 turbo section. I'm sure you'll find a few thing to check there.

This one has a few things to check and a link to another "running hot" thread in there.
