1987 3.2 Caliper Identification - No Guide pins right? And alloy or cast?
Hi,
Have a 1987 and have been communicating with biggred.co.uk about sourcing all new caliper pistons for my rebuild which originally was going to be seals only. They've asked the following: "We do have seals and pistons for both fronts and rears. If you have the cast iron calipers? Or do you have the front alloy calipers? Our pistons for the calipers are of a different design from original, as in the pin inside the caliper would need to be removed in order for them to be fitted" I had no idea what they were talking about re: pins- but I've searched and now seen that on older cars there is/was a guide pin for the caliper piston. Only the rears are off the car presently working on fronts today- but no pins were present. Can anyone confirm the answers to: a) if the calipers are cast/alloy (or if the fronts were alloy?) b) confirming by 1987 piston pins were not used? Would love to get parts on their way asap vs. sending photos and waiting for their thoguhts and then going around again to order. If there's any iffy overlap around this year I'll post pictures to this thread. Much appreciated fellow Pelicans! |

The alloy 911S caliper was popular from 1969 until about 1976 or 77. Used on the 911S, 911E with hydropneumatic struts, the 911RS, and the 911 Turbo, plus any car upgraded to Koni or Bilstein. So you should have the later A calipers on the front with the M calipers on the rear.
