Retrofit / Replace 911 SC Exterior Lights w/LED's
Hi all,
I'm thinking about replacing some of the exterior lights on my 1983 911 SC with LED's. I don't want to do the headlights, which were converted to H4's with good halogen bulbs (replacing the original USA spec lights). Instead, I'm more interested in the rear lights, brake lights, the turn indicator lights (front and rear), front driving lights and fog lights. Since my car is a pre-third brakelight model, I'd mostly like to improve my ability to be seen from behind. Does anyone know of a vendor who has the right size LED's for all of the rear lights, driving lights, turn indicators and fog lights? Also, does anyone know of any issues, tips or guidance? I don't want to mess with the electrical system right now (though I am considering a fuse box update later). For this project, I'm curious to see if it is possible to just replace the bulbs and be done with it. Thank you! |

The bulbs on these cars are mostly standard, and you can find replacements all over Amazon. With LED bulbs, you tend to get what you pay for, as most are junk made as cheaply as possible. Good LEDs will last foreverish, bad LEDs will die from vibration and what not, possibly in weeks. I try to buy Philips stuff or any other reputable brand if I can.
I have these for my tail/brake lights: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-1157-X-tremeVision-Exterior-light/dp/B00HWS7XGW They light instantly from the brakes, draw nearly nothing from the electrical system, and have good visibility from all angles. |

Don't know if you use cruise control or not, but some of the LED brake lights can cause your CC to become inoperable. Just an FYI

The red housings only filter out light that isn't red, so a red LED behind the red plastic housing is superior to a white bulb.

@Tremelune: Thank you for your answer and posting the link and the clarification regarding LED colors. Much appreciated.
@uwanna: Interesting about cruise control (mine stopped working years and years ago... never used it anyways). @JohnJL: Thanks -

I've got the 2d Spoke brake/parking light array, and I'm also using these for reverse lights https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017YWMG9O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Like to do more, but this was the initial setup.

I've tried both the Philips Xtremevision and Spoke's LED boards. The Philips are an improvement over incandescent, but Spoke's are at least a few steps beyond that. The LED array makes a huge difference in making them noticeable.
Also, I think his front DRLs/turn signals are a fantastic idea. Finally, these will be a huge improvement in your H4 housings: 3800 Lumen H4 LED Headlight bulb

you will need to replace the turn signal relay if you change to led signals.

not only that, you may have to rewire your tachometer a bit in order to provide a ground to the relay circuit via the turn signal indicators...not such a big deal but can be frustrating if you can't get your LED flashers to work...
+1 for spoke's LEDs
