1991 964 wheel fitment help

can somebody chime in and tell me if 18x8 et 57 and 18x9 et 43 will work on my narrow body 964. what exactly is et and I know we are not talking about the extra terrestrial. I get very confused with this because I go on the wheel threads and see all kinds of et numbers being thrown out there for the same 964 cars.

ET is the offset of the wheels. The D90's on my 91 964 have ETs of 52 and 55.

Mine are 18x8 ET45 and 18x9.5 ET49 and 235/40R18 and 265/35R18 tyres

This gives a great visual representation of offset:

They will work just fine. What tire sizes are you planning?

'90 c4

Hi all,

Similar question, any ideas if these wheels would fit on a '90 964 C4?
Front Rim size: 6.5Jx17 ET47
Rear Rim size: 9.5Jx17 ET47
I keep seeing offset of ET55 as what to look for, so thought I'd ask about these. The 3" difference in width between front & rear also jumped out at me. Should this be of concern? These are OEM wheels.

For tires, I plan to use:
Front 205/50ZR17
Rear 255/40ZR17
Thanks!

the rear is the same fitment as was used on the 964Cup, the oil line needed to be flattened and the lips massaged for this to work, no big deal

the front is a narrow wheel w/ an ET that causes it to poke outboard 5mm more than a stock 8 ET52, the narrower tires allows that, the usual 225/45 would probably have issues

The question to ask yourself is what look you are going for.... many offsets/widths will work, more aggressive drop/with lower et numbers will require fender rolling.

Maybe post a picture of a car with your ideal set up and others can chime in as to the specific et, width and tire combination to achieve it.

Thank you both. I need a new set of tires and thought I would pick up a set of 17" wheels. I will likely do 99% street driving with an occasional DE. I just bought the car a few weeks ago, so still taking care of some small things. I prefer the OEM wheels and was hoping it would be simple to just swap them out from the D90s currently installed.

I'm not familiar with flattened oil lines and I don't think it's something I want to undertake. Is massaging the lips similar to rolling the fenders?

This is very helpful:
964 wheels

I will keep looking for a used set of 17" wheels in 7"-7.5" ET55 range up front and 9" ET55 rear.

These are nice, though a little pricey:
