Newbie headliner question
Hello all,
Newbie here, first post. I just purchased a 1974 911 and I have a question regarding the headliner. It has a white headliner except the section for the sunroof is black. This seems kinda weird but if it's "correct" I will just leave it alone as the headliner itself is in fine shape. Does anyone here know if Porsche made them that way? Thanks in advance, Scott

WHite headliners were common. Black sunroof in a white headliner, not so much

Nice looking '74. What's that black thing on the front wheel?

Thank you :-)
That pic was from right after I unloaded it off the trailer when I bought it. The car had been sitting for 10 years ..The black thing is duct tape plugging a leaky valve stem so it would hold air to roll off the trailer...I have since replaced the stem |

Porsche offers everything you want, so basically it could be a "yes", but I've never seen it or heard of or read about it. So you can take it as a "no". Replacement is quite easy, but the finding the correct 40 year old discolored headliner vinyl might give you some problems.

It's not a sunroof but rather the super rare M2143 "Moon Roof" option. You can stick some adhesive backed glow in the dark stars on it to enhance it!

And maybe a "black light" dome lamp... :-)

Hi Scott, there are a bunch of threads on this subject. I just went through the process to recover my torn sunroof head liner panel. Just search under sunroof repair and you find what you need. In short, you will need to take out the sunroof panel and detach the sunroof guide rails to allow you to pull the panel out through the front. It's not a bad job. Good luck with it.

The panel is a bit bigger than the roof. So basically you need to remove the sunroof, then loosen the clips and you can slide the panel out.
In the Technical Info (link in top of this page) section here on the board is an article about removing the sunroof. Porsche 911 Sunroof Repair | 911 (1965-89) - 930 Turbo (1975-89) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article I hope this will help you further with your head liner. Otto |
