Replacement engine for 1979 911

I'm trying to determine if my current engine 3.0 6290159 can be replaced with a 3.6 6590616?

Many folks have transplanted aircooled 3.6 liter engines from 964s and 993s into their earlier 911s -- you need to address cooling challenges (the 3.6 lacks an integrated cooler and requires more cooling capacity than currently present in a stock SC) and other related issues (engine tin, wiring/etc). There are two vendors that provide parts/adaptors for this -- patrick motorsports and instant g

do some searching in the forum/etc. and you should find a wealth of info

I understand it makes a HUGE difference, just be sure that the donor engine's in good shape (i.e. doesn't need a rebuild/etc.) first --

Irregardless of what the keep it stock folks say, having a Metzger motor is about as good as it gets for an air/oil cooled car.

The donor engine is on a trailer separate from the car. I intent to take it in to have it checked out before the commitment to swap it out. Then once the original engine is out I can have that checked out to see how viable it is to keep it and put it back in. I have reached out to Patrick Motor sports for their opinion. I am also trying to find a new rebuilt if necessary, do not know the best direction for that.
