1975 US Spec 911S Targa Build Date Database
For some reason after 12 years of ownership I started to wonder when the build date of my 1975 911S Targa was. Of course, I could shell out $110 for a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity but often the information under DATE OF MANUFACTURE says INFORMATION NOT AVAILABLE.
I know there were a total of 1,517 1975 911S Targa (US spec) vehicles made. The production run started July 1974 and ended June 1975. So I started looking at online FOR SALE advertisements for the VIN sticker on the driver door jamb. Below is an example of one such sticker; ![]() After finding several VIN stickers I was able to narrow down the date of manufacture of my car. Here is the logic; if Vehicle # 0001 was made in July and vehicle #0100 was also made in July then it would be logical to assume every vehicle from #0001-0100 would also have been manufactured in July. If vehicle #0200 was manufactured in September, it would not be as obvious when vehicles #0101-0199 were manufactured without other VIN sticker dates. If a VIN sticker indicated that vehicle #0150 was manufactured in September, then you could confidently assume all vehicles from #0150-0200 were made in September. Under this scenario the date of manufacture of vehicles #0101-0149 could not be confidently deduced without additional information. If information came later that vehicle #0125 was made in August, all you could deduce that vehicles #0126-0149 were NOT manufactured in July, but POSSIBLY made in either August or September. If it later was verified that vehicle #0140 was manufactured in September, you could confidently say vehicles #0140-0200 were made in September, the grey area would decrease from vehicle #0126-0139. For the past week I have uncovered several VIN stickers and have been able to piece this puzzle together. These are my assumptions in this vehicle manufacture database 1) The vehicles were manufactured in numerical sequence 2) The first vehicle of this model run 9115210001 was made in July 1974 3) The last vehicle of this model run 9115211517 was made in June 1975 4) The VIN stickers that I have found, correctly reflect the date of manufacture of that particular vehicle. So this is what I have found out so far . . . 1975 Porsche 911S Targa July 1974 9115210001. (I have not verified this, but assume production started in July 1974) 9115210089 Build date of 07/74 9115210101 Build date of 07/74 August 1974 September 1974 9115210181 Build date of 09/74 9115210230 Build date of 09/74 October 1974 9115210405 Build date of 10/74 November 1974 9115210541 Build date of 11/74 December 1974 9115210695 Build date of 12/74 9115210770 Build date of 12/74 9115210804 Build date of 12/74 January 1975 February 1975 March 1975 April 1975 9115211166 Build date of 04/75 May 1975 9115211187 Build date of 05/75 June 1975 9115211360 Build date of 06/75 9115211499 Build date of 06/75 9115211517 (I have not verified this, but assume production ended in June 1975) Assuming the production run started with vehicle #9115210001 in July 1974 and ended in June 1975 with vehicle #9115211517, we can map out the ENTIRE production run with as little as 22 cars! I will continue to check the internet for additional VIN stickers from the 1975 911S Targa production run. If any of you Pelicans have any dates (VIN Stickers) to share please PM me or post your info.

This only works if you can gaurantee that the vins were issued in the same order the cars were built in.
