Vintage Porsche appraiser in CT?

Hi guys,
My mint condition 911SC is being improperly valued by USAA, and I need to engage my own appraiser who understands vintage Porsches in order to avoid losing $30,000 as a result of being rear-ended by an idiot.
Can anyone recommend a seasoned independent appraiser in CT, ideally northern CT? My car is at Automobile Associates in Canton awaiting restoration, but USAA has considered it a total loss due to assigning it a value that's about half of its market price.
Thanks for any help. Such a terrible situation.
Adam

AAG auto appraisers...nation wide outfit and they deal in market value's by the latest auctions on classics.
Sorry to hear that. If you don't mind me asking what was your yearly policy price with USAA?

Thank you very much for responding. I pay about $900 a year. USAA valued car at $34k, but Hagerty book value is over $50 for my condition car, and based on Hemmings listings it should be over $60k.

Will USAA insure based on appraised value? I've got a Ford GT that (I fear) is insured as a 10-year old Ford.

This is one very special SC if it's valued at $60k. Have you priced SC's lately? Not one is that high. I think I have one of the nicest ones around; it's special, and I wouldn't sell it for $60 nor could I replace it for that. But it's a true one owner, highly restored beauty. Replacement cost doesn't always mean value.

With all due respect, it would have to be absolutely mint perfect with less than 10K miles to be in that ballpark, or drop dead restored. I'm in the same NY marketplace as you are, and use USAA. I have never been let down by them.

I'd love to hear more about your car and why it's worth so much, and wish you the best with USAA.

I agree with Nick. How many miles? I'd think $34k is a fairly accurate valuation.

Hagerty values an "excellent" condition '80 911 targa at $42k. Mine has 76k miles, and was in excellent condition. If you look on Hemmings, you'll see that the range for a good example is between 40 and 60.

My insurer won't accept haggerty either...

To be fair, their values listed on Porsches are stupid high. On ferraris, too low.

My 930 is valued way over 100k, yet people on this site list them in the 80s and can't sell... Don't care, they can bury me in it.

I agree with the other guys... I have never seen an SC for 60k. In the 30s is about what I see them listed for. Maybe 40s. Prices have fallen.

An appraiser is a good idea, let us know what you find.

Good luck

Hagerty follows the market (from reported sales), not leads them and the aircooled bubble is at least deflating if not popped.. Plus, unless you have a value stated policy, you could be out of luck. Should have insured (and paid for) $60K coverage if that is what you wanted. Asking price does not equal selling price.

sorry to hear your SC has been damaged

I use USAA for my daily drivers (non-collectable cars). I use their affiliate/partner American Collectors for my agreed value on my P-cars. Does the OP have agreed value through USAA?? When I first bought my P-car I called USAA. The rep basically told me not to use their platform as they could only use what was effectively a blue book value. They sent me to American Collector and I've been pretty happy.

Hagerty prices are always high. Would you ever pay the prices people ask in there?

The local PCA Porsche Post, Panorama and even Pelican are way more representative of value, and even these are just asking prices. Only the best of the best exceed $50K, and I bet you can't even find one for that price in any of those places. $40K, maybe. Mid $30's more like it.

The car you lightly describe is a mid $30's car, and it's a Targa. Ask Auto Associates, Rennwerke or Classic Car Garage what they think it's was/is worth.

If I were you, I'd try to get USAA up to high $30's. You can replace your car at that number.

It could be worse. My Turbo is parked in a garage at sea level in northern Florida.

My wife's Boxster was recently totaled due to a sideswipe. USAA gave me a number that I considered low. I took a photo of the Options sticker under the hood and listed the items that were not in their valuation document. My car was special ordered with a number of options not commonly found on the cars. USAA came back with a better amount I could live with and we settled. You might try appealing with concrete data why the car is worth more. They will work with you.

Yes hagertys prices are high and appraisers prices always come in high. I own an 83 sc and it is insured for 40k agreed value. Called Hagerty about raising value last year and they AGREED that easy. Nick I've seen your 78 and I hope you've got that insured for 50 k min.. Back to op yes get an appraiser find for sale adds. Find auction prices. Only here are Targas despised everywhere else it's the price goes up when the top comes off. Less Targas made and higher sticker prices all add up in the appraisers eye. Yes there's cheaper ones out there but it's going to cost extra to get them into the shape you want it in. That's why you insure for the most they will let you. Don't know USAA but I'd do the leg work and send them as much info as you can. Good luck hope you get her back on the road.

Not quite understanding this. Hagerty (which most posters here agree overprices) says that an excellent condition SC Targa should be $42k. Yet you say yours should be $60k? So it is better than excellent? I think the $34k is a very fair price based on all the postings I've seen on our host, Ebay, and many other sites. Five years ago these cars were averaging $10k. If you have had it any amount of time, you've probably at least doubled your value and should be happy.
