wheel fitments for 1977 widebody project

I'm trying to get a set of wheels for my '77 911 widebody project. Can anyone tell me the correct fitments for a set wheels once I get the 930 flares installed without relying on spacers?

Also, I'm thinking of getting 17" rims, but I'm not certain what widths to get for the front and rear. Should I go with 17x7s and 17x8s? How about 17x8s and 17x9s?

Should I even go to 17"? A friend said I should go to 16" since it would be cheaper in buying a set of tires and they provide a more comfortable ride? Another friend told me to go to 18", since everyone seems to be upgrading to 18".

Your assistance in this matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

17s or 18s offer more tire sizes.
Use 9" front and 11" rear widths to fill the space.

I have 3 sets of wheels/tires.

7 & 9 x16 w/RE-730's for the street
7 & 9 x16 w/V700's for the track
9x16 & 11x17 w/A032R's for the track - thinking about going to V700's

I use a 2" spacer for the 9's, and 1 1/2" for the 11's - I spec'd the spacer to match the wheels, not the other way 'round If I had a buncha cash laying around, I'd get 2 sets similar to what Jack was running, and ditch the spacers.

Looking for a comfortable ride: Go with 16"

Peronally I dont have my Porsche to take a comfortable ride so I got 18"

I mean handling is everything according to a Porsche!

I say go for 18 or 19".

I got 18 x 8,5 & 18 x 10 but itīs room for wider wheels.

What hubs are you running? If Turbo 930, then you don't need spacers to run 8 & 9" Fuchs, and you can go to 9 and 11"
