OT.........solution ?

I was pondering this weekends OT post. Wayne, I have a thought. I know everyone has balked, spliting up the 911 board.

How about a 911 community OT board. That has a link right below the Parts and 996. Right here on page 1. That takes care of us lazy folks who don't want to click back to the other OT board.

What does every one think ?
I think we would use it.

I think Wayne should put in a filter for the people who DON'T want OT posts. I understand his points but gee this is the only board I go to. If I don't get OT posts here I don't get them anywhere. This is a community for crying out loud and it would be nice to get alternative possibly even (gasp) non-car related information from the people here that I trust via the 911 connection. It's like having a party and saying whoa don't talk about nothing but what I want you to talk about. Going to the OT board is a waste of time because there are just so many and I don't LIKE that party. The current OT rate here seems fine.

SO the requirement is - start the subject line with "OT" or you're busted. Give the user the option to ignore OT. Problem solved.

Of course it's not MY board and Wayne got us this far...

Wayne says posts about the community or about the forum in general aren't OT, so we'll leave this thread right here.

Personally, I honestly like the occasional OT post - but I've seen what it does to large communities (like Pelican's). The forum soon degenerates into non-topic general conversation, and regardless of being able to filter out OT posts, there's suddenly less on-topic posts. Trust me, it's healthy for the board.

What if people policed themselves and put OT in front of their titles?
Or make the thread poster choose a colored icon from, say, 5 different tech/non themes so people could sort through them quickly. Default would be a big red octagon with an "x" through it. (Just kidding.)
