Restored a set of 996t calipers yesterday...
So, against most people's desires.... I am gonna do 996t brakes on my 1968 outlaw 911 IROC racecar project....
It's a bit sentimental honestly. I built up an amazing 700hp 996t over a year or so, and then had a mishap on some backroads and ate a tree totaling it. I parted it out, sold a lot of the stuff to friends, made a few bucks, and it it what allowed me to purchase the air cooled car I have now. I recently acquired the calipers, rotors, wheel studs, nuts, and brakes lines off that car and have them in my possession now. I though ti would be cool to use them on this build, kinda keeping my old car going on in this one. Getting adapter and stuff from Static-G and will be doing 930 master cylinder as well, etc. I figure if they don't well, I can sell them and try something else. Anyway, onto the pics. I own a powder coating shop here in the Cincy area, so this stuff is all in a days work. First full disassembly. Next stripping with B17 down raw aluminum. Then full sandblasting to uniform surface. Next mask and plug all ports and holes, etc. Then coat with red. Lay on some decals. Then do a full powder clear coat as well. Good as new, or better in my opinion. I didn't do any pics during disassembly. :(

That lettering is amazing. How did you do that?
|
Looks like you powder coated them. Do 993 calipers have seals between the halves? Any concern you may have melted them in the oven if so?
Never mind - monoblocks! Nice job! |

But we coat multi-piece calipers all the time still assembled. Powder cures at only 425 degrees. Those calipers get hotter than that every time you drive the car. Those o-rings between the halves are safe up to much higher temps than that. |

Coated red. Then cut decals and apply. Then powder clear. And boom. |
