15s and 16s on SC (16s optional) - 16s on Carrera.

6w front, 7w rear. M491 had 8s rear.

From memory...

So 6s and 7s on all SC and Carrera in both 15" and 16"?

8's came on the rear of the early "turbo look" carreras before changing to 9s.

Was the 930 the only 911 to come with 7s up front?

Interesting that the late Carrera began getting 7x16 fronts and 8x16 rears.

Would the late Carrera 8x16 be the same wheel/offset as the M491 turbo look 8x16 wheel?

yes! (however, I believe late carreras continued with 6x16 up front, and only received 8x16 rears, which had the same part numbers as the M491 8x16 rears)

What are you looking to do with this data?

I am looking for Fuchs to put on my 1979SC.

Im no longer looking for stock 6's and 7's in 15" or 16".

Id be interested in going with 7' and 8' in 15" or 16".

I have also considered 8s and 9's in 16"

I came across a set of the rear M491 8x16" Fuchs which is what got me asking all the questions. lol

gotchya! 8x16 work great on the rear and will accept either 225/50-16 or 245/45-16 tires (unlike 16x9 which will only work with the scarce 245/45-16 size)

Up front, 7x16 will work great but on a non-wide body sc/carrera, you may run into tire rubbing which can be fixed by rolling the inner front fender lip. You'd run 205/55-16 up front.

Check out tire availability in the 15" sizes -- I suspect you'll find that, outside of the 205/55-16 and 225/50-16 tire sizes, there are VERY few options available these days. Fortunately, since a number of high(er) volume cars also use these 16" sizes, I'm not very concerned with their availability drying up in the foreseeable future.

Just an FYI:

My 1983 911SC Targa came from the Factory with special ordered 16x7J /16x8J Fuchs.
In other words, 7 inch Fuchs up front and 8 inch Fuchs rear. So, apparently there was an option for MY 1983 as far as I know/remember.

Fuchs front 7" are all ET23.3, doesn't matter if its 15 or 16 or a 911 or 944 version, the 944 versions will have more brake clearance and recessed lugs, but are other wise the same as the 911 versions

all 911 8s are ET10.6 doesn't matter if its 15 or 16 or came from a SC or Carrera or 930 or M491, if used a 930s a big spacer is used. There are 944 8s too but these are ET23.3, some use them on the front of a 911 but the ET is a tad high for a happy fit, if used on the back of an SC or Carrera a spacer is used, If used ona 930 a bigger spacer is used.

there are early 9x15ET 3 which can be used on the front of a 930, most 9's used on Sc are 9x16ET15 from a 930 where they are used w/ a big spacer, they are a perfect fit for SC/Carrera w/o any spacers.

The happiest SC/Carrera Fuch wheels fitment in 16 is 7ET23.3(either 911 or 944 part 3s fir the same but the 944 have BBC) and 9ET1, in 15 it is 7ET23.3 and 8ET10.6

no spacers for any of the above on an SC/Carrera w/ stock fenders

What is ET, as in ET23.3?

BBC = Big Brake Calipers?

Sorry if this is obvious Bill

What would be the happy fit on SC/Carrera in 15"?

sorry for the typo above
in 15 it is 7ET23.3 and 8ET10.6
I wish I had the pics from when I bought my '76C3, they seem to have disappeared over the past 40yrs, it came w/ 7ET23.3 205/50 and 8ET10.6 225/50 x15 tires, It looked and ran great that way. While those were the original wheels and tires the icing on the cake was the set up in Germany by a prominent race shop, very low, The thing I remember most is that my shoes wouldn't fit under the front spoiler.

tcsracing == It's my understanding that, beyond racing tires, there's almost nothing available in the 205/50-15 and 225/50-15 tire sizes bill references above.

I suppose that's possible, it would be nice to be able to see the Monroney label, in '83 M395 option was 205/55 & 225/50 x16 tires on 6ET36 & 7ET23.3 Fuchs, M401 was 15" wheels width no specified in the docs I have

7 & 8 x15 w/ 205/50 & 225/50 x15 was an option in '76 on C3(M395 +M401)
'80 SC Weissach Coupes came w/ the same, though painted differently

7ET23.3 w/ 205/55 & 8ET10.6 w/ 225/50 x16 certainly fit and SC/Carrera though the front is very tight when the car is lowered necessitating some work on the lips(I had mine shaved rather than rolled even w/ 15")
