Best product for black trim? *Turbo Tail* etc...

Hey Pelicanheads I need some advice.

I am looking for the best product to protect all of the black trim on my 930. The tail and bumperettes are still in good shape but not perfect. I am looking for some suggestions on what products to use.

I have used a few silicone based products and they are too slimy and don't seem to do anything. Can anyone make a recommendation?

Thanks in Advance

I've been using "Black Chrome", available at auto parts stores like Kragen etc. Sort of a gray cream, you put in on, rub it in, buff it out. Seems to last a few weeks. Non-slimy, satin finish.

I think there are some other products out there that are sort of black dyes meant for tires. Not sure I'd use them without testing on a hidden spot.

Pelican's tech tips section has some articles on the subject. Also see www.carcareonline.com for some more articles and a list of fancier products.

If you can find it, there is a product called Black Again. it comes in a white and black tube/ bottle sort of thing, and is awesome. It's a white cream, and it works on most any color plastic and rubber, not just black stuff. Definately my first choice, but I'm not sure who sells it anymore since I think they sold the name or something.

I think something glycerol based works great. The rubber/tire treatment from Zaino works great and lasts a LONG time.

I've had pretty good results on exterior rubber trim with 303 Aerospace Protectant.
No silicones, fairly long lasting, non-greasy, non-shiny finish, good UV protection.

Anything with high glycerin content (or simply straight glycerin), with no silicones will work great. 303 is really good too, and keeps the rubber protected the best from UV rays (#1 enemy). Also, the old "Black Again" was the best stuff ever, but has since been bought out and the formula now contains silicone (#2 enemy).

Why is silicon a bad thing? Cool saying Eric!

I have had the best results using MeQuiars Endurance Tire Gel on all black rubber surfaces,I have not heard of the Black Chrome so I have no way to tell about it, sounds like it is good stuff.I use the 303 on all interior vinyl and it is the best ! You might try Van's there in Austin or Pepboys. they have the best selection in town,Carcareonline has the best selection on the web.Are you a PCA member ? Austin's PCA club is very good.

The purple-colored Meguiar's stuff has worked miracles at restoring black trim for me as well as a nice silicone-free job on the tires.

I have the purple Meguir's too, but the smell reminds me of silicone...are we sure it's not a silicone product?

As for another answer.....peanut butter.....yep..peanut butter...don't laugh.

Thanks again for all the help, guys!

Chuckr... Thanks for the tips. I'll check out Pep Boys. I am a PCA member and have been very impressed with the HCRPCA. I am looking forward to getting out to one of the DE's at Texas World Speedway or Motorsports Ranch. I see that you too are in Austin, are you an active member?
