Post oxy sensor heat shield

Installed a new oxy sensor and have a question about the heat shield. The shield was origially installed facing the rear wheel. This seemed odd to me since it seemed like it should face the engine as the oxy sensor is closest to the cyl. head so I installed it facing the engine. Anyone know the proper installation. I looked at bentleys but it doesn't talk about the shield.

Thanks,
Don

Question

I did the same thing. But then another 911 owner told me his was on the wheel side too, so I moved it back.

Maybe something to do with flying debris off the rear wheel. They are very sensitive to shock.

Joseph, good point. I was only thinking about heat. I guess I'll be moving it back this weekend.
Thanks,
Don

I was told the heat shield protects the CAT from water being kicked up from the wheel.

This is the reason the shield covers the wheel side of the CAT.
