I have a question concerning 911 3.0-3.2 cam changes. I am building a 3.2 engine for club use and am thinking of using the new Crane cams since they less expensive ($535/pair) than web cams ($1K). The problem is that the Crane cams use the earlier “large nut” retaining system.
Question: Are there other difference in the cams other than the retaining system. Will the chain wheels work on either cam? Was anyone done this “back date”? Also any experince with the JE pistons in Malhe for track use. Any good suppliers? Thanks! |

Thanks Chris,
The kicker is that is you do a mild regrind, say to a C2 (or Elgin has a c2 super) Elgin charges around $375. However! If you want a race grind then the cams will need welding and the price goes to $600 (price of new Cranes). My 3.2 cams are perfect (10k miles) so they are probably worth $300 or so. So I thought the new Cranes were a better deal as I get to keep my 3.2 cams. Thanks for the suggestion |
