Floorpan cutout for gearbox removal in 911sc rallye car

Hi,

I read about this in an old thread (located here Bringing a 60’s SoCal racer back to life as a Spec 911.) and since I am constantly improving my group 4 rallye car and the engine and tranny are out of the car right now, it would be a good moment to do this cutout.

This would really help us to get the tranny out and in again in case of need.

Does anyone have more photos, information, tips, do's and dont's about this?

Thanks,

Dan

The belly pan cover plate over the excised opening allows a vertical drop of the drivetrain.

Dan,

I did this to my old 74 911 track car. it is an easy modification to do. there are no structural issues to concern with. I simply cut a half circle section out slightly bigger than pictured in the post and made tabs to reinstall the cutout piece. Sorry, I don't have photo. I did it back in 1999. it sure made dropping the engine and transmission much easier and quicker.

The original poster wax105 (Carl) in this thread is a talented fabricator and he did this on his RSR clone project

This was a really cool build in England. The owner had a cut out installed to make gearbox removal easier. The build thread is long, but the cut out mod starts at the bottom of this page.

I've done this mod to my '74 as well. It's not too hard to do as long as you're paying attention when you make the cut. It does make removing the engine and transmission a breeze and is well worth it for a non-stock example that sees frequent engine-out service like a track or rally car.
