Single windshield wiper with 944 rear wiper motor

Single windshield wiper with 944 rear wiper motor:

I'm trying to find out who has done this conversion to their car?

The closest I can find is in this old thread but there's no real details of photos of the 944 rear wiper installed.

what`s the procedure for running a single wiper

Any helpful pelicans out there who have further info on this?

Hey sixbanger this is destined to go in the frunk of a 911 so the 944 forum wouldn't really help.

The 944 rear wiper is a fairly small neat box that people have fitted in the past but trying to find out more info........

...Why would you want to do this?

I've seen people flip the blades over to the passenger side to get it out of the line of sight.

Lotus Elise / VX220 wiper motor in a 911

Right, I have to forge ahead with this single wiper thing, mainly because when I had my car painted they moved the wiper spindle point to the centre and deleted the other!

The 944 rear wiper was a nice idea but ultimately flawed because the lack of functionality and the range of movement was no good.

My thoughts then turned to: what cars have a single wiper and this led me to purchasing a wiper assembly from a Lotus Elise/VX220. I have now fitted up the wiper in the car so all is good...... apart from the wiring. Did I mention that I hate car electrics?

I did hook it up so that the wiper worked on two speeds when I was holding the bracket but it would not park and as soon as I mounted the bracket on the car it shorted out and popped the fuse so must have been live.

The image below shows the pin-outs from the Porsche and the Lotus/VX220. If it was just a case of them having the same signals then it would be no problem but they are not and I'm completely stumped.

Please please please can somebody with an electronic brain give me some pointers before I throw my toys out of my pram. I have spent way too long getting nowhere with this! Any advice gratefully received.

Alex,

As I understand it:

31 = earth
53 = live feed from wiper switch speed 1
53a = live feed direct from fuse (keeps motor turning to stop position when switched lives are stopped)
53b =live feed from wiper switch speed 2
53e = live feed from intermittent wipe function pulse transmitter (controlled by dash potentiometer )
53i = live feed from wiper switch speed 3

Thanks for the good info Mark. I guess I just need to work out how to translate that across to the Elise wiper.

Good find. I saw the similar Mercedes wiper but it is a lot bulkier.
