Hey everyone, my squadron just got orders to deploy to an undisclosed location next week. I'll post when I can and let you guys know what I can, providing we have internet access!
In order to keep this on topic, I'll be storing the Porsche along with a buddy's Corvette for a few months - anything special I need to do? Fuel keeper or some such additive? Talk to you later, |

Take care out there. If you pull up to a "Grizzlies" Tanker, say Hi! We're not gone yet, but...

STA-BIL, available in most any auto parts store, works! Also, a battery maintainer...these send a small amperage charge, usually under 2 amps, shut themselves off & on as needed. Most common cheap brand is schumaker, but they all work. This should keep your car and your friend's vette both ready to go upon your return...for 6 months anyway. Oh, top off your gas tanks to minimize condensation problems...run cars a few minutes to be sure the STA-BIL is completely through the fuel delivery system. Finally, my sincere thank you to you and all who serve.

It would be nice to get some of those wheel cradles so you don't have a flat spot on the tire where it sat for a while. Don't have any of these but seems liek a good idea.
Anyone have a set of these and do they work? |

Stuff some rags soaked with WD-40 in your exhaust tip. This will keep mice out of your tailpipe (it happens) and will help prevent condensation and cold air from working up your exhaust. Just don't forget to take out the rags when you start her back up. Be safe and God bless.

Add to the list a oil change. Over inflate the tires to counter the flat spotting effect. If you are going to be while (I hope not) you could also fog the engine with (suprise) fogging oil. Typical for marine engine, winter storage.
godspeed. |

Hey Face, I'll take care of her for you and make sure she stays execised and does not atrophy. I gave Doug E my 911 to babysit when I was gone for a few weeks. She was much happier that way.

Take the advice on the battery charger Face. I have had to replace too many when storing my Mustang, i have one now..
Good luck, We have a beach place in Emerald Isle, so I am familiar with your neck of the woods.... |

For the Battery I've used the Battery Tender for my Harley, Porsche and a whole house generator. I swear by this brand as they have proven circuitry that will not overcharge the battery. You can also get a multiple vehicle unit that will maintain up to 4 batteries in the same vicinity.
In addition to the tailpipe you may want to put mothballs or Bounce dryer sheets in your "trunk" and interior to discourage the nesting of rodents. Stabil works great.....Also, fill the tank with fuel to prevent rust. I heard that corrugated cardboard under the tires, as opposed to concrete, helps prevent flat spots as well. I've also been told that a car up on blocks is a no-no. Some remove spark plus and introduce a small (a bit less than a Shot glass amount?) amount of oil. I've heard Marvel mystery oil or Synthetic. Then replace plugs. I put a coat of wax on my wheels as they're clear coated. However, I don't take the wax off untill I'm ready to revive the car. Hope this helps....and Good Luck! Rick

Face,
For Deployment I have put mine up on stands before to avoid flat spots. Stabil (sic?) is also a good idea. @#$#@$ California puts nasty stuff in fuel which seems to eat a rubber lines and then foul my Carbs. Best option is to have someone who can exercise it once in awhile to keep seals wet, fluids circulating etc. May be joining you soon. Good hunting. Check 6, Gordo

Before you go, liberally spray the carpets with rubbing alcohol and let it evaporate. It will keep it fomr getting moldy and musty.
Good luck on your deployment, and come back safe.
