Help with fuel hose removal 3.2

I am trying to remove the above fuel hose and I am stuck here.

That support bracket is located at the L bend on the hard line. I thought I could take the nut off, but it is soldered to the bracket.

I felt to the other side to determine the the socket size and to my suprise the screw is round. I thought I needed a screwdriver but there is no slot. It seems the screw is an alan head as I can feel a hole.

I have now dropped three alan wrenches into the bottomless pit and I am lost on how to remove this.

Anyone been there and done that?

Pretty sure it's an allen head - sorry - thought I had a picture of it but dont. I can't imagine trying to change that out without removing the entire intake.

Good luck. I managed to change mine without removing anything but the heater blower, but it's been so long that i can't remember. maybe you should get one of those blind spot members.

Can you reach the nut on the bracket that attaches to the top of the case?

I have not removed the line you speak of.......but I have replaced other lines back ther in the same area. I removed the air box and AFM and the big black elbow thing all in one piece and it made lots of room to work. and the removal of those parts was not bad.

Howard:
would you sell the old hose provided you don't have to cut it out?
Regards,
j.p.
Ps. You can retrieve the allen wrenches with a magnetic rod.

As long as the hydraulics shops doesn't cut it up you can have it for the price of postage.

Well I had to remove neraly everything on top of my engine except for the left side intake runnner. It would have been easier to get to the smallest rubber hose if I could move the left side intake, but I couldn't remove the the throttle lever to move the intake to an easier position.

I have about seven hours into removing these hoses. In retrospect I should have dropped the engine. That would have taken about two hours and hose removal would have taken five minutes.

I am on my way now to a hydraulic shop in Baltimore to have them replace the rubber.

For reinstall I think I will have the car towed to my friends house as she has a garage, and drop the engine. I just don't feel secure I can get those fuel lines TIGHT with the limited reach and torque.

Check out the condition of this hose.

Im curious what you're going to do with the small return hose that connects the bottom of the FPR to the rail. what's your plan? I ask because it's the only one I haven't messed with

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I cut the hard line & the soft line & left a section in there. I just couldn't get them off. I was replacing with non-stock hoe so it didn't matter.

Jerry: I inspected that short section & it looked OK so I didn't replace. It will wait for an engine drop.

I figure is it part of the fuel injection hose and will start to leak at some point. Since i'm in there and I've already lost a lot of skin off my knuckles I should just change it too.

Unless my memory is wrong that little J-hose is $150 here.

My new hoses

Here are my hoses that were replaced by Lonsdale & Holtzman in Baltimore, MD, 6851 Moravia Park Drive, Baltimore, Maryland 21237, 1-800-866-4467.

They cut off the old clamps then brazed on their own connecter to my fittings then crimped on the new hose.

Toal bill was $32.00

I will now spend the rest of this Sunday reinstalling these hoses.

Hey Howard,

The rubber connection on your pipeline in the upper left hand area of your second picture is cracked and can be the source of vacuum leak problems.

I did this same job when I had the plenums off. My hose was 20+ yrs old, so off to the hydraulics house I went. As of today, I'm really sorry I didn't replace the hose with a new one. The section from the filter out to the hard line entry point is leaking!! I have the same crimps as the ones Plymouth Colt has; the only difference are the ends which close over the hose ends by the fittings. Mine where done very poorlyand don't have the shoulder.

New hoses were $400. Should have had them made like you all did. Old hoses were only 5 years old. Hopefully they last longer. I eventually cut them out.

I too was stuck for hours on that center bracket. Ended up unbolting it from the case (bottom). Then realized it was held on by an allen bolt which came right out eeeeerrrrrrhhhhh.

What a knuckle buster project. Dozens of cuts on my hands and wrists.

But, she fired right up by some miracle.

That job took me 8 hours. The right hand side intake runners came off first.
