Jeez Louise, do I feel like a heathen! I guess I look at lug nuts the same way as stone chips on the front hood. They're gonna get scratched.

I use a Snap-On cordless Impact tool, with the black socket, to change to track tires and back to streets. My 12V model will torque to about 90 pounds so I still use a calibrated torque wrench to torque the nuts to 94. Yeah, the lug nuts get scratched, and look a bit ratty but they are only lug nuts. Of course, for the track, I use steel lug nuts for safety. BTW, the newer Snap On 14v Impact tool will torque to I believe about 130 lbs.

Thanks Pat, I felt unworthy until you posted. Protecting your lugnuts ranks right up there with polishing the fan. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy polishing and cleaning and detailing just as much as the next guy. But a lug nut is a lug nut. BTW how do you keep that darned muffler from getting so hot?

Well, I must be suffering from a "senior moment". Er . . . ah . . .. . "muffler getting hot?" . . . .How can I give you a smart a$$ reply if I can't even remember what you are talking about. Some days I even have trouble remembering to keep my pants zipped up.

The Pelican Parts nylon insert lug socket takes a 1/2" drive.

Bringing up an old thread...

Since the pelican alloy wheel lug nut socket with nylon socket is NLA, I got this from this thread and ask you all which works best to not damage, mar or break the aluminum porsche wheel nuts...
1. Porsche # 000.721.300.00... this is available from Pelican I just found out...
2. Porsche # P300...
3. Stoddard's # T52.508.300...this is available from Pelican also...
4. Auto Atl. # RT52508300 or # RTL1007...

So, my objective is to hopefully find a socket that has the nylon/plastic insert INSIDE the metal socket as was made years ago....

**Anyone know where to find the nylon/plastic insert style socket...?

LMK what you all like & dislike... thx, Bob

When I looked a few years ago, I couldn't find any with the nylon insert inside the socket. I ended up with the Stoddard solid aluminum socket. It seems ok as long as you use it with care.

The 'insert lug socket', was one of my first purchases from Pelican 20 years ago...still have it its cracked a bit but works..aluminum, I think it is...

Also : when changing your wheels / tires etc. do it yourself.

Don't let any one touch your nuts.
