where to get super blue racing brake fluid?

I don't see them any more. A little searched, I found someone said they don't have it anymore in the U.S. Instead, they make the typ 200. Does this have color fluid? I just want some color to differentiate new vs old fluid. Does anyone know any story?
Thanks.

The colored fluid does not pass DOT regs, brake fluids are required to all be the same golden color. No colored brake fluids are available in the US any more.

Any automotive chemistry types who might comment on how to add a little color to the clear stuff ? Must have been a simple nearly free additive that made it blue as the two types were identical price wise. I always hated chemistry.

I have a local guy sells me blue. Shelf life on a sealed can is 9 years. It seems he is running out, but I am running blue for now - not sharing. How about a group buy from Europe. I read it was discontinued because some people on this side of the pond were mistaking it for windshield washer fluid - or using ww fluid to refill brake fluid reservoirs.

I also read something like that when when it was first reported that ATE had discontinued the blue. And don't ya know that legislation is the surest way to get rid of stupidity?

I was looking the other day and I came across some for sale online. I thought it was eBay but I just searched and only the gold came up. It was probably double the cost of gold. I'll keep looking to see if I can remember where I saw it.

Would be a good product to develop: small bottles of dye that could be added to brake fluid to help in flushing the system. Shouldn't be too hard for an entrepreneur to develop and market...

Urban myths^^, of course that's not to say someone, somewhere, may have put the wrong fluid in their brake reservoir.

ATE Blue was removed from the U.S. market by its distributor, Continental, voluntarily because it could not meet DOT certification due to the color. This was a regulation (color) that had been known for 15 years prior to the removal from the market. The feds did not outlaw blue brake fluid, they only stated it could not be sold as DOT certified for road cars--much like H-1 headlights. The removal was a business decision by the distributor.

L.J.,

This link confirms what you are saying -- that Continental quit distributing it in the US. But the letter in the link also says that it was a mandatory safety recall and that it is a violation of federal law for any retailer to continue to sell it "after receipt of this notice".

Does this federal law apply to private party sales? Probably not, but I'm not a lawyer either.

Yes, this is the same thing as Super Gold.

Here is the link to the product sheet from the ATE website.

ATE 200 is exactly the same, just not blue, buy that instead of the blue stuff that's been sitting on the shelf the last few years

The letter was to Continental's retailers who still had ATE Blue on their shelves and those containers did not have a "NOT DOT APPROVED" label and were, therefore, in violation of the federal color requirement and mislabled.

As all mentioned, the blue fluid didn't meet U.S. regulations and therefore it was banned from being sold here. The Ate Typ200 Super Gold fluid is the SAME thing, but meets the color regulation of brake fluid for the U.S. I stocked up on a few cans before this all happened, but when I ran out I have 'switched' to the Typ200 with the same braking results.

Fluid here if needed: 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe - Brake Hydraulics - Page 3

Why else ban it? It makes total sense to switch between colors when doing a brake fluid change.

I doubt many companies put shelf life dates on their products - particularly something as safety sensitive as brake fluid - that they can't defend in court.

I would expect the ATE Gold to be comparable to Blue

Sure, except when the guy does not follow your instructions, and sues you.

I will keep using blue every second flush, until expiry on sealed cans. YMMV

Anyone here use the Motul RBF600 or RBF660, or Red Line RL-600? Looks like they offer a significantly higher boiling point for not too much more money than ATE Type 200.
