Moving to Switzerland: How hard to meet their technical requirements?
I would like to import into Switzerland for my own use a US spec, 1987 Turbo Look Carrera. I would like to hear from anyone who has actual experience doing this.
1. Is this something which can reasonably be done with respect to cost and administrative hassle? 2. Does anyone have a name of a company which could help with this? Thanks in advance. |

Export.

They will most likely refer you to the factory Swiss specifications for your M/Y. I know that on the 993 models, a under engine panel was, required in the interest of noise suppression. Also, give the Swiss Consulate a call. Best, Gerry

There were a few things different for specs on Swiss market cars but I can't imagine they would necessarily all be a requirement for someone relocating from outside the country. For example, the G50 cars had different gear ratios to help with noise suppression. Other than the transmission, everything else on my Swiss market car seems in line with what I've read about other Euro cars.
One thing you will possibly require is a rear fog light. But my suggestion is to talk with an importer to get the most accurate information. Also check online info: https://www.ch.ch/en/registering-vehicle/

If the car is pretty near to stock and in technical good condition it should not be a big problem, even when swiss has **** rules and the guys at MFK centers are sometimes very strange. You def need the lights changed to euro lights, best maybe ask "leichtbauer" on here, he is from Swiss has i guess enough knowledge about swiss rules to answer that question

Just sharing a friend's experience when he worked in Switzerland for a while. I don't remember much of the tech requirements other than euro H4 head lamps (with the small city lamp bulbs) , euro rear lenses, and stock stock stock everywhere else. Your speedo may have a visible kph scale inside the mph scale, so that will likely pass. You might need to add those fender mounted side markers, but I am not sure on that one
Their test procedure is VERY thorough ! Besides visual, emissions, noise ,there can be NO leaks, car is test driven at their facilities for braking and to some extent performance, no rust allowed. Beautiful country with some great roads !

Not sure otherwise it may be easier to ship to an EU country first. I would post on the impact bumper forum as there are a lot of French, German and Swiss owners on there. |

If you bring it in as a personal belonging, that you owned for over a year (maybe 6 months even), they will let you bring it in without too much hassle. Seedo, lights, not much more. Best to ask them.

Take careful note of what TRE says..
I work for a Swiss company (Nagra) and travel there all the time. We've sent a few people over there, some with their cars. The no leaks and no rust requirement is what keeps all the old cars in 'CH' off the road. Best, Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 423k miles |
