Update on my 911 AC repair

7 months ago I replaced my compressor, receiver and expansion valve in my Porsche. I also did a vacuum and recharged system to 134A and replaced all o rings. . After all these months it still works. When it was cold here two weeks ago I got the AC down to 36 degrees when it was 59 outside!!! So the bottom line is when it is really cold here in San Diego my AC works great! My real point here is the system did not leak.

I did fix my AC. But I'm sorry you did not get my air cooled 911 AC joke. My point is that when it works well on a 85 black on black 3.2, It's still terrible.

That is terrible for a dual condenser system. Sounds like an upgrade is coming. A 23 degree delta might make it when it's 90, 67 might actually feel good.

^^^

Pretty typical for a stock system . . . decent performance when below 85-90f, not too humid, not too much heat soak to deal with, and you're not looking to hang meat in the cabin.

if you did not replace the hoses it will leak out and if it is low it may not show at 59 degrees.

if you have a good system that did not leak I would have just put r12 back in it.
you can get it on ebay.

Nope, not replacing perfectly good hoses. My system works. I live in the San Diego area so I don't need ice cold AC. I have never seen a stock 911 AC blow really cold. Says right in my owners manual that system will loose refrigerant over time. I checked my records and the factory AC has hardly worked over the last 31 years so I feel my AC is like brand new with very little use! Anyway, I replaced compressor, expansion valve and black goo tape and receiver. Also replaced all O rings, changed over connectors for 134 refrigerant. Used correct oil, did vacuum check then used cheap gauges from Harbor freight to fill system. If an owner just wants his system to work again I spent about $500 to do the job. One day in the summer I actually got a chill from my AC. OK, that was a lie. Never going to happen out of those two tiny vents. HA!

I did the same thing, but lost refrigerant over the corse of about 4 months. I went ahead and bought the barrier hoses, and it has held its charge for 18 months with no leakage. I get 40 or so at the vents on 90 degree days. Nice to have, and keeps the car from getting stuffy. It is also nice with the top down to generate a cool breeze when parked at a light.

It won't fully cool a heat-soaked car that has been parked in the sun.
