Is this a good tranny to use for a 3.6 conversion ?
This guy is very local. I am starting to round up my needs for the 3.6 conversion on my 69` . I have yet to decide which transaxle to use. This is a 930 5spd unit right ? Whats it worth considering it to be good ?

Kurt, I would suggest an '84-86 915 for the following reasons,

Bill if this tranny can fit without modifying the torsion tube I would have no problem working out the install. Is this tranny a 915 ,930 5spd or a g50 ? I plan to drag race the car as well. I dont want to worry to much about the tranny breaking. If you dont mind could you explain why not to use this unit. Also would this tranny allow the use of a cable clutch ? How about clutch options for this unit.

It looks like a G50, the 930 was an early version of the G50, they all used the bigger 240mm clutch as does the 964. All of the G50s will require at minimum the '87-89 torsion tube or alternately removal w/ installation of coil overs. I think that the very expensive shortened version will fit w/ a modified torsion bar tube. The 4spd 930s used a cable clutch, the 5 spd a hyd clutch
For drag racing I guess that you may be forced to go to the hassel and expense none of the 915s will live long if bused in that manner.

I think that is a 4 speed 930 box. You could fit that tranny but you would have to shorten it.
