E Brake Light

1974 2.7 stock. My e-brake light stays on, if I push down on the lever it goes out. Question, wheres the switch for the e-brake. The brakes not engaged at all as it rolls easily even with the light on. Thanks

Your brake pads could be getting worn and causing your fluid to be low - I might check that first. I'm not sure if it's the same for all 911s, but for mine, the fluid level makes the e-brake light come on.

I also thought it was the switch on mine, at first it was really intermittent, then it was constantly on. I would sometimes jiggle the ebrake and it would go off, but now I think it was just that the fluid was warming up or after I started moving it would trip the sensor when it was just barely low.

Anyway, could still be the switch or a short, but that's the first thing I'd check.

The handbrake switch is a switch to ground. When working properly, pulling up on the hand brake grounds the circuit causing the red light in the gauge to blink as the power comes from circuit track 40 from the flasher relay.

When the parking brake handle is pulled up the switch is pushed up by the spring until the electrical contact at the bottom of the switch makes contact with the bracket. This grounds the switch and turns the light on. When you push the parking brake lever down the switch is depressed and no longer makes contact. This turns the light off.

To adjust the handbrake grounding switch, take the rubber cover off the brake handle, you will see a small screw on the passenger side of the brake housing just past the handle pivot bolt, along with a curved slot, this it the adjustment set screw for the parking brake light switch. Release the hand brake and loosen the screw just enough to slide it. Use a small screwdriver, or some needle nose pliers to slide the switch in the slot, up or down as needed, until the light just goes out. Tighten down and test again. Apply brake and release, the light should go out. If none of this helps, it could be the wire going to the switch has been pinched and is grounding out causing the light to be lit.

Hope this helps!
