Paint code 936 on a 1972 911?

I checked my paint code on my 1972 T today. It is 936, metallic silver. However, I checked my Johnson book and it doesn't list that as a 1972 color. Had to search on the net to find 936, which I found as a 1976 color. What gives? Could my code plaque have been replaced?

My manual shows 936 as VW Metallic Silver, available as a 1972 colour available from September 3rd. 925 was the colour Metallic Silver September 2-3 !!!!

To add to what Nick said. 925 silver was offered on 72' model 911s. 936 was offered on 73' on model 911s.

Nick and Bobby,
So...can I deduce that having the plaque on my 1972 911 makes very little sense? My sequential build number is 846, and the car is definitely a '72 (double flaps give it away).

It probably makes sense but in an early 911 way. Your car must be a tweener. I don't doubt that the plaque is original. Justone of those things that make your car special.

In Porsche 911 World I saw a Carrera RS that had the 72' oil tank flap. Turns out it is a real RS. It just happens to be one of the earliest ones built on a 72' chassis. Which would make it "the" most desirable production 911 in my book.

I thought 'tweener also except for the chassis number in the first thousand produced for the year. No biggie, I'm ordering the Kardex soon anyway. Just curious.

Right now it's white, but that's all coming off.

I agree with you on the RS- I'd give anything to have that one in the garage. Wow. Double flapper authentic RS.

Mine's and early '72, Dec 1971 manufacture I think, 9112110339 with the 936 VW silver Metallic also.

Dave, you are not alone.
