Porsche 938?....does it exist?
A dumb question to all you Porsche officianados....is there such a thing as a Porsche 938? My buddy thought I owned a 938 but I said that there was no such car. He says "Sure there is!!!...What kind of a Porsche guy are you?!?".....who's right?
FWIW, I've seen an ad in ebay for a 930 with a V8.....advertised as a 938 but.....are you kidding me?!? Alex |

I think there was a 924/944 variant that was tagged the 938

it is indeed the internal Porsche project number for a rhd 924 Carrera GT. the toy above is a 928, not the correct 924 Carrera GT. Just be clear, the 931 is the LHD designation.

Thought the factory did a better job with paint.

The 938 was the factory designation for the right hand drive 924 GT per my memory.

Most of the 924-44-68 series had a +1 for RHD models. 931: 924 Turbo 932: 924 Turbo RHD 933: 924 SCCA D-production 937: 924 Carrera GT 938: 924 Carrera GT RHD 939: 924 Carrera GTR 945: 944 RHD 946: 924S 947: 924S RHD 949: 924 GTP / 944 LM 951: 944 Turbo 952: 944 Turbo RHD 969: Not a RHD 968! This was to be the production number assigned to the 965 prototype.984: stillborn 924S successor I'm not sure if a RHD 924 is called a 925..

Crap FrenchToast. Just when I thought I knew it all. Thanks for setting me straight. For some reason I was thinking it was the LHD CGT.

While 938 was the Porsche internal project number for the RHD 924 Carrera GT, no one used that number to describe the model out in the real world. So, the answer really is that there is no such thing as a Porsche 938.

I'd have to disagree. There is such a thing. It's just not commonly used. That's like saying there is no such thing as a 991 or 986 since most people call them 911s and Boxsters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why are we talking about this in the 911 technical forum?

Don't be so harsh - I was recently considering getting a cat or dog to go with my car and was at my wit's end trying to make a decision about breed, size, colour, etc. Imagine my joy when a quick search of this subforum provided a veritable treasue trove of information.

Really? What if the answer to the original question was a 911 variant? Thanks for taking the time to express your view concerning the subject matter of this thread. I'm sure it was really eating at you. ..... and I'm quickly reminded why I don't post much anymore.

If you read what I wrote, I said some Porsche internal project numbers are used in the real world. The examples you provided, 991 and 986, are such examples. So are 964 and 993. No one says "Porsche 938" when they are talking about the RHD 924 Carrera GT. No one says "Porsche 923" when they are talking about the 912E. So, again, the answer really is that there is no such thing as a Porsche 938.
