Mag Case Inserts
I have an original 914/6 mag case that is gonna need some machine work. Unfortunately the case stud in the picture is stripped. Anyone know what the going rate is to have mag case done up with case stud inserts? Who would you recommend that is in Florida or closest to Florida?

I'm unaware of anyone close to Florida who can properly fix these cases.
Send it to Ollie's or Competition Engineering to have everything done correctly, especially given the value of your car.

You need to contact Mike Bruns (JB Racing). He's the go to guy for engines.
He's in Tavares. Richard Newton 26 Years in a 911 |

Last I looked the Competition Engineering site had prices for case work. Kind of important to get this right... I'd only use one of the recognized leaders in this area.

bcheney,
I had mine done at Ollie's - I've never regretted the money I spent (about $2500 when I had it done). Once you get the block halves stripped, they are incredibly light and can be shipped very easily. You don't need a shop close to you in Florida. Just removing some of the studs tended to tear up the threads - so best to plan on doing them all. Some block threads that are known problem areas are not always obvious (rear mount bar stud threads pull too). I also purchased new head studs, but the old steel studs work just fine on a stock rebuild with a mag case.

Mag Case Inserts
I know Mike Bruns, he has done a engine for me...should have thought to call him. FYI He is no longer in Tavares with JB Racing. He hasn't been there for a few years. I spoke to Ike at Ollies today so that is probably where I will send it. Thanks for chiming in everyone! Have a Merry Christmas.

Henry Schmidt at Supertec in Fontana, Ca did my 2.7 using case savers throughout. Luckily the stud that stripped is not a critical one but should be properly repaired. An experienced shop may also recommend some other upgrades while you have the case apart.
