993tt front rotor mount questions...

This is with regards to the 2-piece design brake rotors (bell and disc) used on the 993 twin-turbo.

Can anyone give me answers to the following?

1. size of bolt used to hold disc to bell/hat

2. number of bolts holding disc to bell/hat

3. diameter of bolt circle for bell to disc mount

4. how thick is the bell/hat where it mates to the disc?

5. the diameter of the bell/hat

The reason for asking these odd questions is that I have a set of 993 non-turbo calipers destined for another car and will be using the 322mm x 32mm Porsche factory rotors. Unfortunately I don't have these rotors on hand (budget problem at the moment), but need to get some designs done in the meantime for the mounting bell for my application. The only details I am missing at the moment are the 5 above.

Thanks.

*bump*

Just thought I'd give it a kick, bring it back to life, that kind of thing. I'm desparately in need of finding this information, so if anyone has it or knows where I can find it then let me know. Thanks.

Suppliers will not supply that info. It is proprietary and they do not want any more competition.

Users will be loath to get dirty just to supply you with this data. maybe you will get relly lucky and some one with some spare time will have something lying around, but given the responses so far it seems unlikely.

Don't take it personally

No, I won't take it personally. I think you're perfectly correct on this one. I am going to try some Porsche part suppliers who carry stock of these units. Otherwise my other option is to get the rotors from Porsche themselves, but that will happen in a few months time when I have the money for them and that kind of puts designing the hats out by a few months.

I will see what I can find.

It seems like what you are trying to do it design/fabricate a custom hat to bolt to the stock Porsche 911 turbo rotor as used on the '96-'97 911 turbo.

This stock Porsche rotor is two pieces bolted together and sold together. I do not think they are designed to be separated and you cannot buy just the rotor part. I suppose you could do it but if you are going through the trouble to fabricate a hat why not select another rotor that fits your specification from those available from different manufacturers.VCI sells a kit using a slotted rotor. Not sure what brand they use.

Those 2 parts are available separately.

I have searched high and low for aftermarket units, but I keep coming back to the original Porsche items. Something to do with the locals asking me for $700 per aftermarket AP rotor as opposed to Porsche wanting around $200 or less.

VCI seem to have some nice prices there. I am however going to get the original Porsche items as I won't have to ship these half way across the world to get to me. They're here in town, but the branch does not keep stock and I don't want them ordering stuff and have me wind up not taking them due to immediate finances.

Having the hat made is not a problem. I just need to finalise the sketch with the proper dimensions.

Gerard,

I have a pair of hats on the shelf at home, I also took some measurements of the bolts when I had them apart to change the hats. I'll try to remember to gather this stuff together tonight on my site, I also have a little Porsche document that gives the proper torque for the bolts.

Hindsight is always 20/20

Checked my laptop, the PDF was right there. 10 bolts, but no answers to your other questions yet.
