I run a one in one out m&k with an aftermarket cat on my '86. The m&k is the current design (quieter than the originals). It is a couple years old and has gotten a bit louder over time. I love the sound. I did need to adjust the AF ratio a bit.

Do you think something like this is just too much?

For me? Yes, too much. For you? Don't know.

But don't buy it on eBay, our host sells it too, same price. Fabspeed 911 Supercup Exhaust System FAB911SCUPS32 - Fabspeed Motorsport - FAB-911-SCUPS32 | Pelican Parts

Unless you change your heat exchangers you will be stuck with a single in. Dual out tends to drone at rpms that are within your normal driving range.

Believe it or not a flat turbo muffler can be fabbed very cheaply at your local indy muff shop. Avoid the Porsche tax. Tell them what you want and they usually will swap one on and let your test it.

I ended up just running a sport cat w/o a muffler on mine.

Another M&K 1-in/1-out vote. Along with M&K premuffler and Wong chip, recently dynoed at 211 RWHP in my '86 US spec targa. Otherwise stock.

And sounds great, no drone. But it is quite smelly due to no cat.

Much lighter than the 'lead sausage' stock muffler and cat.

I used to have that on my 3.2 with cat. Sounds nice but I was looking for a more air cooled sound so I sold it and settled for a M&K 1 in 2 out GT3 style muffler with quiet riot baffles to bring back mid-range torque and quiet it a bit. IMHO, Dansk is the closest air cool sounding exhaust I have heard. I am willing to trade my M&K 1 in 2 out GT3 for a 1in 1 out Dansk Sport with 84mm tip.

The car is great and very sporty looking but doesn't have as much bark to what looks like it's bite on the stock setup. Would like to turn this thing up to 11.

Something like this

Would like to hear some suggestions on the best aftermarket setup you think is the best for having a more aggressive sound coming out the ass end. My lower left valence is cut out for current stock muffler but I'm open to cutting the other side for dual exhaust or modifing for center/GT3 style.

I'm aware I would not likely get to Rally Group 4 level carnage but need something between stock and neighbors calling the Police. Open to suggestions. Also, if you have something that you're getting rid of that might help would appreciate the look.

Thanks!

bro I have a 951 and a magna flow exhaust system and it sounds great! I did hear a 911, with a crappy exhaust drive by while I was cruising and it sounded like an old v-8 powered dump truck with holes in the muffler. It sounded crappy! He passed me, and I could see the tips, they looked "new", be careful on your choice. You don't want your nice ride to sound cheap!;)

Interesting. I do have a local muffler shop that might do this. Can you give me an example of what a flat turbo muffler would look like?

Thanks for the tip. I have heard good things about the Dansk. I suppose this makes more sense. I'd like that solid air cooled sound as opposed to something too nuts.

Nothing wrong with this

I had a 951 before my 3.2 and it had a Fabspeed exhaust with headers that sounded good. Not the same 911 sound but had a nice rumble.

Turns out I have a cat by-pass installed currently with what looks like a stock muffler although I'm sure could use an upgrade. Are the OBX cat by pass any good? $100 or so on eBay seems reasonable.

Also, found this but leery of anything custom made.

SUM-622003 2.5" U-bend pipe - $21.95
WLK-17676 Walker 1 in 1 out same side - $69.95
WLK-31900 Walker 2.5" 3-bolt flange - $3.95

Total: $95.85

Also my first try at welding, lit my pants on fire, and boy do the welds look bad. Has held up well though.

Hear it here. That's with a minimum bullet style cat mandated by the rules, but OE heat exchanges otherwise.

Hard to go wrong at that price! I would try it...could always resell if not happy w/sound.

Arne2 01-16-2017 07:47 AM

The OBX cat bypasses have not received good reviews here in the past. Spend a little more and get a good one.

Only negative would be I'd have to cut the rear valence for the right side and if I didn't like it I'm kinda stuck but I like the idea of dual exhaust.

Very cool. Guessing you're saving quite a bit of weight too. I have a guy that might be able to do the welding. Did you have angles measured out or just figured it out as you went?

Why don't you remove the valence first, then only when your sold on it cut it.

esample 01-16-2017 08:29 AM

SSIs and an M&K 2-2 will turn it up to 11.

Flew by the seat of my (on fire) pants. Everything fit into each other, so once I made the cuts I could kinda mock it up on the car, tack it together, then pull it off and weld it for reals.
