Another oil additive - maybe this one works?

I found myself reading a waiting-room magazine today (forget which one, but was aviation-related) and ran across an ad for an "FAA-accepted" oil additive offering corrosion protection and reduced wear additives. Here's a link:

Home

Looks like they offer various products for aviation, automotive, diesel, and marine applications. The site has numerous pieces of data on it (but I haven't fully reviewed).

Thoughts?

Have many 911 motors died from rusting from the inside out?

I wonder how this compares to Avblend? I picked up two cases years back at the Reno Air Races.

I was hoping you would chime in, Michael. Any comments on the efficacy of their automotive products?

I know that 911 motors don't have significant corrosion concerns, but thought that the anti-wear attributes of this stuff may be of interest to others, especially with recent evidence of products like VR-1 disappearing from the shelves.

That stuff was likely formulated for the 0-320H Lycoming engines which suffered cam & lifter spalling issues.

I would be very careful about fortifying any good engine oil as you can easily upset the balance of the additive (ZDDP + detergents) package. A proper API-SG/SH oil offers plenty of protection for 911 engines and changing it annually helps prevent corrosion.

What do the unfortunate Cali Pcar owners do given the new prohibition on high ZDDP
oils in that state, and how long before that trend goes nationwide?

Autozone VR1 $2/quart

Do we know for sure that California has banned it? I haven't done a search to confirm it.

Here in MA my Autozone had all their VR-1 oils on sale for $2 as well (including straight 50W). They told me it was because Valvoline was changing their packaging and they wanted to get rid of all the old style bottles.

So I did a search, and it does seem that CA did ban certain "obsolete" non-detergent motor oils, but that was in early 2016. Not clear it applies to VR-1 20W-50.

If it was still for sale almost 12 months after the law took effect, then I would propose the sale was for packaging reasons as explained to me here in MA.

A post on this thread stated that Amazon would not send VR1 to CA. Autozone VR1 $2/quart

"If California banned VR-1, then they will probably ban all oil with higher amounts of ZDDP. Holy smokes. I just went to my two local Auto zone stores and it is all gone. Then I just tried to order through Amazon and they said cannot to my address in California!!! What do we do?? "

Have it sent to a relative or friend out of state then have it sent to you.

In New York state they banned knife sales (quality hunting type) from being shipped to any residence in the state. I had it sent to my friend in Florida and he repackaged it and sent it to me.

I have a log home in upstate NY.The entire northeast banned Sikkens stains , so you cant buy a decent stain product or have it shipped here unless it's low VOC which means it sucks. Too many laws and regulations.

I have a feeling NYS will ban this oil also as we generally follow Cali.
