1976 930 paint job

I'm restoring 76 930 turbo. My first Porsche and my first restoration.
I found great paint shop and they do amazing work,my problem is that I don't know anything about painting the cars.Whatever he told me make a sense to me,but I would like to know what is the most important that I have to pay attention on,what should I ask him or tell him.Im painting whole car from scratch.
Can you guys give me some tips or ideas what to ask and what to pay attention to
Thanks

The actual painting is the EASY part. It is all in the prep. I would suggest you go to someone who is familiar with restoring/repainting Porsche's. This is a '76 Turbo we are talking about, not a 996. Good luck.

I was just talking to a really good shop today. The magic number is now around $20,000. The paint alone is over $3,500.

OP - If you're already having doubts about this shop don't do it. You shouldn't have to look over their shoulder. And, they absolutely do not want you suggesting different ideas as to how they might do a better job.

Find a shop you really really trust. Then let them do their job.

The only thing you have to do is write the big check when it's done.

Strip to the tub paint is $25K depending on color (red is more). Price goes up as more dents, bends, and imperfections are found. Prep is THE work, painting is quick.

The numbers being thrown out are way too high. We do complete paint jobs on P-cars all the time in the $8K range, and if you bring it to us with with all the bumpers, etc.. it will be closer to $6K.

So $19k will not work

This is exactly what he told me about pricing.its a lot of money, but I guess it is the only right way to be done.

I don't have any doubts,he seems like he knows a lot,I was just concerned if there is anything that I should pay extra attention, that has maybe to do only with 76 930turbo.
Otherwise I think that they'll do good job

Another paint Question and high prices being thrown out. I agree with Rattlsnak, these prices are way too high for repaints. 25k? That is very high for the surface area on 930s. Maybe 15k, but that better be amazing and include everything (glass out, seals, parts, etc.) This price also depends on area. I know the same work in Indiana is double in Cali. Best of luck in your project and I hope it works out in your favor.

There is cheaper out there. I know some others will chime in to help you out. I would refer you to someone in Indiana, but he just retired. I will do some looking and see if I can get you some other options.

Does anyone understand the OP's question?
Does he even have one?
What exactly do you seek to know and understand?
You are not painting the car, the shop is, correct?
You need to know how to bring the car to the shop.
You also need to know how to write a check.
They do the rest.

I just had a bare metal, windows out, doors off re-spray with Glasurit single stage 3 coats. Paint was 1700.00. I took car apart and will put back together. A good friend who owns a shop did it for 5K. Catch was, it was going to take awhile (10 months). Another 911 came in months later after mine and guy was charged 15K, body shop has to take apart and re-assemble, not using Glasurit.
Even if you think your panels are straight, there is more body work that's always necessary, to make things perfect.

Slate grey, ala Steve McQueens 930
