Correct Tire Size for 16x7 & 16x8

I've searched the forums but I cannot find a good thread that states the standard tire sizes for my new wheels.

I have a '74 narrow body mid-year. I have just purchased 951 Fuchs 16x7 & 16x8 wheels. By the way (they are being delivered from Fuchs Restoration Service tomorrow :) ).

What tire sizes are recommended for these wheels. I'm assuming that for the front, the turbos had 16x7 so I probably should go with that size tire. For the rear, I won't go any wider than a 225 but I'm not sure if these should be 50's or 45's.

Any advice would be appreciated. Especially anyone with experience with 951 Fuchs on a mid-year.

Thanks,

205/55-16 & 225/50-16.

Thanks Steve!

^^This. You could optionally use 245/45-16 on the rear (Bridgestone RE11s work).

Did you see this thread? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/163655-16x8-fuchs-narrow-bodied-targa.html
How did you get them refinished?

Exactly what I have on my SC in Bridgestone RE11. Fantastic summer tire.

I ordered my tires yesterday from Tire Rack: Bridgestone RE11 205/55/16 & 225/50/16.

Got a call from Tire Rack today and they don't have the rears and won't for several months. They said that Bridgestone may be phasing our the RE11's in my size. I changed to Bridgestone RE 71's and according to the tire rack rep, he said it's a better tire and a little bit cheaper.

I have the RE11's on my 944 and I like them but I feel that they are a bit twitchy, possibly because they grab the road more than my last set of tires and also possibly because of my alignment.

Worthy of note... The extra rubber is nice, but then you go from having over 20 choices down to one, assuming they're in stock.

Re11 no longer being manufactured at least in the rear. 225 50 16

The issue I've found is the 205/245 combo.... Toyo makes the 245, but not the 205 to go with it in the same model tire for the street. If you go up to a 225/50 in front, then the Toyo T1R is available with the 245/45, but unless you have a wide-body or run extra negative camber in front, it ain't gonna work.

I think the RE11 is the only one with the 205/245 combo for the street.

Toyo do currently make T1R tyres in 205/45x16, 205/50x16 ad 205/55x16, it is just that Toyo US does not make them available to you guys. They are readily available in the UK and listed on the Toyo UK web site, Proxes T1-R | TOYO TIRES - United Kingdom (look under the "sizes" tab).

Dunlop Direzza DZ102 215/50-16 and 205/50-16. I run them on my '75 with 7 & 8" 951 Fuchs.

Thank you

Called Lucas and yes they have it in stock, Thank you Darrin, man is pricey at $385/pc. Is it worth it I know Pirelli is out until next year. May go with PZERO or Micheline instead. Any recommendation? I love the look of the P7 but is it worth the price?

The P7 has a good period look but 16" 951 wheels aren't period for a narrow body.

What are your goals? Are you looking for grip or cross country driving?

Living in LA with year round warm weather and access to some amazing canyon roads I'd cetainly be running The Advan A052s

avahdani 11-01-2024 07:24 PM

@turbofan thats my plan. I'll check out the Advan A052 Mr. Merk,
